About The Position

The Radiologic Technologist will work at the Bureau of Prisons Federal Prison Center-Alderson Health Services Department. This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week. The role involves performing routine radiologic procedures for the inmate population, maintaining equipment, and ensuring patient confidentiality. The technologist will explain procedures to inmates, maintain mammography accreditation, and evaluate equipment for repairs. They will also be responsible for transmitting and retrieving X-ray images and reports electronically, and assessing technical exposure factors for diagnostic exams.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Unrestricted state license to practice in the state of West Virginia as a Radiological Technologist.
  • Graduate from an accredited school or program for a Radiological Technologist.
  • Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • A minimum of three (3) years of Radiological Technologist experience.
  • Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified either by the American Red Cross (ARC) or the American Heart Association (AHA).

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine radiologic procedures ordered by the medical staff for the inmate population at the institution.
  • Perform routine radiology and mammography services to AIC as referred by BOP Health Services Staff.
  • Maintain the radiology and mammography equipment through required services performed by contracting services.
  • Independently perform all radiographic and mammographic procedures, i.e., chest, bone, skull, spine, knee, back, etc.
  • Notify the Radiologist or referring Physician of any preliminary abnormalities seen while the patient is undergoing an exam, so that additional views or exams can be ordered if needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy of medical information in the radiology department and medical conditions of the AIC and staff.

  • Provide assistance with medical staff duties assigned, such as scanning of medical records, maintaining radiology badges, monitoring sanitation in the health services area, and assisting in improving the Organization Plan.
  • Explain appropriate instructions to the AIC who undergoes radiology procedures.
  • Maintain mammography accreditation and related standards.
  • Evaluate radiographic equipment for calibrations and repairs, and inform the HSA if repairs or calibrations are needed.
  • Ensure there has been an inspection for defects performed twice per year for gloves, aprons, and shields, and those inspections are signed off by the clinical director and the HSA.
  • Transmit, retrieve X-ray images and report electronically, and scan reports into the Adults in Custody (AICs) Bureau Electronic Medical Record (BEMR).
  • Independently assess and select technical exposure factors and positions necessary to obtain a proper quality diagnostic exam.
