Radiologic Technologist (3P-11P)
About The Position
The Radiologic Technologist will perform all radiologic exams and other special/fluoroscopic procedures within the scope of their license. They will ensure radiation safety by following the principle of ALARA, determine the most suitable anatomic position and shielding of patients, and instruct and prepare patients for imaging examinations. The role involves reviewing and processing images, administering contrast agents if required, and screening patients for contraindications. Patient safety measures, including ensuring the right patient, right dose/rate, and right procedure/site/side, are paramount. The technologist must also complete annual educational requirements and maintain compliance with all state, federal, and Joint Commission regulations.
Requirements
- Current certification by ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) in radiography; ARRT (R).
- Current certification by the State of Florida.
- Current BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification.
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
- Demonstrates basic computer skills and knowledge consistent with the needs of their department.
Responsibilities
- Perform all radiologic exams and other special/fluoroscopic procedures within the scope of license.
- Ensure radiation safety by following the principle of ALARA in all aspects of radiographic/fluoroscopic exams.
- Determine the most suitable anatomic position and shielding of patients following department policy and protocol and clinician orders.
- Instruct and prepare patients for imaging examinations.
- Review and process images for storage by ensuring the proper views were obtained according to department protocol.
- Administer appropriate contrast agents, if required, and document activities related to their use, in line with state and institutional policies.
- Consistently screen patients and know the proper procedure when there are contraindications.
- Practice consistent patient safety measures ensuring the right patient, right dose/rate and right procedure/site/side.
- Complete annual educational requirements within the assigned time frame.
- Maintain regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and Joint Commission regulations related to their department and, as appropriate, to the hospital.
- Adhere to dress code; appearance is neat and clean.
- Maintain and ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
- Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner.
- Be willing to receive constructive feedback to enhance self-improvement.
- Complete work within designated time.
- Attend and participate on hospital committees, as appropriate.
- Wear required identification while on duty.
- Do not avoid challenging tasks.
- Assist in the training of students, co-workers or other personnel.
- Relay important information to other staff/shifts to maintain consistency in operations.
- Understand how to utilize the grievance process to resolve concerns.
- Demonstrate basic computer skills and knowledge consistent with the needs of their department.
- Know the limitations of their license/certifications and do not practice outside these limitations.
- Maintain cleanliness of equipment and department.
- Responsible for the safe handling of equipment as well as maintaining safety for themselves.
- Know the proper procedure for calling codes and the proper response for each code according to department protocol (i.e. fire, lock down, infant abduction, bomb threat, etc.).
- Know the proper procedure for reporting incidents involving the patient, visitor or employee.
- Know where to find SDS information when needed.
- Be aware of hazards and hazardous materials and how to maintain a safe environment.
