About The Position

Radiologic Technologists provide exams in the field of radiologic imaging to include diagnostic x-ray, c-arm, and bone density to the specifications of the ordering provider and radiologist’s needs. They maintain knowledge concerning radiation protection and safety, in addition to infection control and standard precautions. Technologists perform patient assessments and provide patient care in a timely, professional, efficient, and safe manner. This role may be required to provide coverage for other outreach sites located in Mt. Pleasant, North Charleston, and West Ashley.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology Program.
  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) or within 12 months of hire.
  • Registry eligible candidates must hold a Temporary B license from South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards.
  • Registered Technologists state license from South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards.
  • BLS certification.
  • Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) within 12 months.
  • Licensure from the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association is required.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform radiologic examinations timely, accurately, and safely for radiologist interpretation.
  • Assure the schedule does not fall behind; exam delays are communicated to all stakeholders. Exams are routed to PACS for interpretation as soon as complete.
  • Perform exams per exam protocol using appropriate anatomical markers and positioning aids. Images are free of artifacts and motion. Assure exams are read in a timely manner and all logs are completed.
  • Screen all patients for patient and technologist identification, patient history, and safety protocols. Review medical history for exam indications and contraindications.
  • Assure the radiology suite and adjacent clinical and common areas are prepared to receive patients/visitors.
  • Ensure all needed equipment is available and in working order, perform quality control per ACR and manufacturer – report ASAP any equipment errors or downtime directly to the service vendor and manager, as well as clinical staff.
  • Ensure all needed medical supplies are ordered and stowed, assure exam room and patient areas are clean and equipment is cleaned per manufacturer, OSHA, DHEC, and MUSC infection control guidelines. Report any environmental issues timely to the manager.

  • Complete procedures following approved procedure protocols with sufficient speed to promote departmental efficiency.
  • Complete required documentation for each procedure, both computer and handwritten.
  • Demonstrate technical competence in the operation of imaging equipment, and the use of procedure related supplies. Complete knowledge of related physics, anatomy, imaging techniques and medical terminology.
  • Introduce self to patients, explain the procedure, assist the patient at the end of the procedure and explain the next steps.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor in attitude, appearance, and communication.
  • Obtain pertinent history, verify orders, and communicate effectively with co-workers and other clinic staff to provide excellent patient care.
