About The Position

The X-Ray Technician performs digital X-ray studies on patients per the orders placed by providers. The X-Ray Technician is a multi-skilled clinical professional who works within the scope of practice to assist in patient care under the direction of the provider. This role may also require travel to other facilities for BSMH providers or adjusting work hours to meet patient care needs as directed by the manager. Other duties include ordering supplies, lab and diagnostic tests, disposing of contaminated supplies, patient registration, scheduling, phone triage, cash handling, check-in/check-out and performing scribing duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Certification and Registration with ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) (required)
  • State Licensure (required in Virginia)
  • BLS Basic Life Support – American Heart Association (required prior to direct patient care)

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's from an ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) accredited institute (preferred)
  • 1 year experience in radiation safety and patient care (preferred)
  • Experience with Radiology Information System (preferred)
  • EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) (preferred)
  • Picture archiving communication system (PACS) (preferred)
  • State Licensure (preferred, unless required by the state where the job is being performed)
  • BLS Basic Life Support – American Heart Association (preferred upon hire)

Responsibilities

  • Safely performs provider ordered radiographic examinations, including but not limited to proper patient positioning, immobilization, and utilizing appropriate radiation protection.
  • Sets up and adjusts supportive and immobilization equipment and devices as required by individual cases.
  • Positions and handles patients with a high degree of safety and professionalism.
  • Accurately documents patient encounters within Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Determines and selects proper electronic and technical factors which safeguard the patient, x-ray tube, and equipment.
  • Maintains clinical and administrative skills to meet patient care and daily operational needs.
  • Collect patient specimens and runs point of care lab tests.
  • Directs and practices sterile technique to prevent cross-contamination of disease.
  • Reports immediately any malfunction, necessary adjustments or repairs of equipment to supervisor.
