About The Position

Firelands Health is seeking a Radiologic Technologist to join their team. This position offers the opportunity to work in a growing coastal community and provides support for work-life balance. The role involves utilizing hospital computer systems for various tasks related to imaging, preparing rooms and equipment, explaining procedures to patients, positioning patients for imaging, preparing contrast mediums, operating equipment, and performing patient assessments. The technologist will care for patients of various age groups, including adults, geriatrics, adolescents, children, infants, and neonates. Responsibilities also include lifting and transporting patients, being available for emergency cases, teaching clinical affiliate students, and assisting with clerical duties such as answering phones, releasing information, and burning CDs. Some roles may require performing short registrations, activating patient accounts, and assisting with patient vitals. The position requires identifying and communicating problems to supervisors and offering solutions.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a formal radiologic technology training program in an approved school.
  • Must be American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registered and licensed by the State of Ohio (ODH) as Radiographer.
  • Both ARRT registry and ODH license required to be kept active.
  • Must be currently certified in CPR, and be recertified bi-annually.
  • Ability to work in an environment that is fast-paced and requires multi-tasking.
  • Uses proper body mechanics.
  • Ability to push, pull and/or lift patient from carts, wheelchairs, or other transport devices onto imaging table/couch.

Nice To Haves

  • A new graduate of an approved radiologic technology training program and registry eligible may be hired.
  • ARRT and ODH license required within 60 days of hire.
  • Cannot work independently prior to ARRT and ODH requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize hospital computer systems (HIS/RIS/PACS) to retrieve information, export images, review images, verify data, perform order entry to produce a requisition, and complete exam record in RIS following completion of exam.
  • Receive order requests, check for special instructions, and consult with Radiologists as needed.
  • Prepare room, equipment, and imaging materials as needed for patients.
  • Explain procedures to the patient.
  • Transfer patient to the imaging table if required.
  • Position patient for all needed views, adapting positioning and views per patient encounter when the patient is unable to cooperate or comply with routine positions.
  • Prepare various contrast mediums for x-rays.
  • Select and operate equipment as directed.
  • Follow prescribed techniques in administering x-rays.
  • Adjust equipment settings; determine proper exposure parameters, selecting proper technical factors on an individual patient basis.
  • Observe patient and machine during procedure and report unusual occurrences.
  • Perform a patient assessment, as appropriate for the imaging procedure to assist Radiologist during interpretation.
  • Perform imaging in the main department, off-site locations, surgery, and portable work as assigned, adapting to each environment appropriately.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the needs of patients according to their age group and the ability to modify care according to patient’s age.
  • Lift, move, and transport patients via wheelchair or cart.
  • Transport patient from patient room, Surgery Center, ESD, and other patient care areas.
  • Return patient to room or other patient care area.
  • Be available for emergency cases on a rotational basis.
  • Teach clinical affiliate students.
  • Assist with clerical and front office duties and responsibilities as needed, including answering and routing phone calls, release of information, burning CDs, and other related tasks.
  • Perform short registrations and activate patient accounts as required by specific locations.
  • Assist with patient vitals to include blood pressure, height, weight, and temperature.
  • Identify problems and communicate appropriately to immediate supervisor, offering solutions as appropriate.
