About The Position

The Radiographer is responsible for producing radiographs to customer and PCC specifications for the evaluation of castings. This role involves setting up castings for radiography, operating x-ray machines, and ensuring the quality and accuracy of the produced radiographs.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or GED (necessary for NDT certification).
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Ability to read, follow, and interpret Technique Cards, Quality Control Manuals, and other technical specifications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.
  • Radiography Level 1 Courses must be completed.
  • Radiographer Level 1 Certification must be completed.
  • Must re-certify - Level 1 every three years.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous radiographic experience and knowledge of basic radiographic techniques.
  • An equivalent combination of classroom training and work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately set up castings for radiography according to customer and PCC specifications.
  • Review Technique Cards to determine setup requirements, including x-ray techniques, part positions, and film requirements.
  • Set up additional radiographs of defect areas not covered by Technique Cards.
  • Prepare daily film requests for the darkroom.
  • Set up castings on x-ray machine tables, including fixturing, placement of film cassettes, and identification markers.
  • Operate x-ray machine control panels and equipment to take multiple views of castings.
  • Adjust radiographic variables such as tube height, voltage, and exposure times within customer specifications.
  • Conduct multiple radiographic examinations concurrently and operate all machines.
  • Remove film cassettes from the machine and take them to the darkroom for processing.
  • Check processed radiographs for clarity, coverage, density, and sensitivity, making necessary adjustments.
  • Record any changes made to radiographic procedures and reshoot films when needed.
  • Complete logs and records.
  • Meet all production and quality standards.
  • Adhere to plant and department safety rules, including PCC radiation safety practices.
  • Safely operate all equipment and tools.
  • Identify and report safety problems.
  • Perform other tasks as directed, including darkroom and other x-ray department personnel activities.
