About The Position

The Village of Tinley Park seeks qualified applicants for the full-time position of Radio Technician in our Public Works Department. Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a directly related field from an accredited college or university or a minimum of five (5) years of related experience.
  • Ability to work in an office and in the field.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle to drive to other Village facilities, work sites, and other locations as necessary.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Skilled, technically focused individual with in-depth knowledge of the principles of two-way radio communications.
  • Familiar with the principles of microwave radio and multiplex communications systems, state/federal regulations, and principles of antenna design and construction.
  • Creative problem solver.
  • Commitment to responding to 24/7 emergency situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior field inspection experience.
  • Knowledge of electronics, audio testing equipment (TIMS), RF service monitor, wall meter, multimeters, cable analyzers, and various equipment utilized in testing RF.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the installation, inspection, maintenance and repair of two-way radios, microwaves systems, and other electronic communication, monitoring, and accessory equipment for the Village of Tinley Park.
  • Perform service order, provisioning, repair, installation, and maintenance activities at site equipment, data center and dispatch facilities with the ability to recognize and corrects highly complex communications equipment malfunctions.
  • Report to remote tower sites, emergency scenes, or elsewhere as directed to effect emergency repairs or modifications to communications equipment.
  • Participate in communications-related emergency planning and tactical communications operational activities, including, but not limited to tactical interoperable communications planning, incident action planning, and tactical communications deployment.
  • Maintain inventory of spare equipment, components, and parts.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and recommend replacement of worn or obsolete communications equipment.
  • Utilize computer hardware and software to program communications equipment and to maintain accurate databases for parts, frequency authorization, inventory, and system user information.
  • Assist with the development and delivery of communications-related training.
