About The Position

This application is for a Civil Service Examination for the opportunity to be placed on an Eligible List for a future opening. The examination process includes a typing test (pass/fail) and a written examination to assess the duties and minimum qualifications of the classification. Candidates must be able to type at least 25 WPM (Gross words per minute minus errors). Failure to obtain 25 WPM will result in a grade of zero. The role involves monitoring and operating multi-channel radios, telephones, and Closed Circuit Television Systems, answering incoming calls, writing work orders, coordinating and dispatching work orders, maintaining contact with field personnel, providing information, and maintaining accurate documentation.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Three years of full-time paid experience within the City of Cleveland’s Water Distribution and Maintenance field units and/or Meter Operations section required.
  • Must display good communication skills and have a good understanding of Distribution and Maintenance operations (inclusive of roll maps).
  • Must be able to work with the public in adverse situations and display the ability to use problem-solving techniques/initiatives on a continuous basis.
  • Must be able to accurately type 25 words per minute.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with the Division of Water’s billing system
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and operates multi-channel radios, telephones, and/or Closed Circuit Television Systems.
  • Answers incoming telephone calls for service, eliciting pertinent information to writes work orders.
  • Coordinates and dispatches work orders to the proper personnel.
  • Maintains close contact with field personnel, assesses information, and provides updates and assistance as needed.
  • Provides information to callers and contacts other additional units and/or outside agencies if necessary.
  • Maintains accurate documentation and records of work orders and the work dispatched.
  • May update account information on the billing system, perform paging of public announcements, or manage the lost and found process.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.
