About The Position

This is an application for a Civil Service Examination for the opportunity to be placed on an Eligible List for a future opening. The role involves applying various types of roofing material and compositions to newly constructed buildings and repairing old buildings. This includes tasks such as applying different roofing materials, removing old roofing, repairing leaks, and applying coatings. The position requires the ability to work at heights and lift heavy materials.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Completion of an accredited apprenticeship program.
• At least three years of verifiable experience as a Journeyman Roofer and Waterproofer required.
• Demonstrated experience as a commercial or industrial roofer.
• Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License required.
• Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 70 pounds.
• Excellent balancing to avoid falling off steep slopes.
• Able to work at higher elevations by climbing ladders.

Nice To Haves

• Construction safety certification such as OSHA preferred.

Responsibilities

• Applies plastic, slate, slag, and gravel roofing to new buildings and in the repair of old buildings.
• Applies asphalt, composition, and prepared paper roofing.
• Removes old roofing paper and otherwise prepares old surfaces for re-roofing.
• Applies compounds and preparations in repairing leaks.
• Applies sheeting and coating on foundation work.
• Tars floors.
• Lays tile and brick in pitch, tar, asphalt, mastic, marmolite, and other mixtures and preparations.
