About The Position

This position is the recognized resource for the Metro region of the State of Michigan, responsible for approximately 44,401 radios. The role involves developing radio programming files for distribution and installation into Michigan’s Public Safety Communications System (MPSCS) radios. Responsibilities include verifying existing Radio IDs, creating new IDs, Talkgroups, and Encryption for developing and building templates installed into an MPSCS radio. This requires extensive computer skills for accurate data entry into radio programming files and associated asset management software (EAM), MCM Technologies Radio Management (RM) databases, and other platforms. The position also requires using radio manufacturer's programming software to create programming files for MPSCS customer radios. The individual must function with minimal supervision and require minimal direction.

Requirements

  • Possession of an associate's degree in electronic technology.
  • One year of experience equivalent to a Radio/Communications Technician 8 (for Technician 9 level).
  • Two years of experience equivalent to a Radio/Communications Technician, including one year equivalent to a Radio/Communications Technician 9 (for Technician E10 level).

  • Candidates selected for this position must complete the Michigan State Police background check, which requires fingerprinting for state and federal criminal background records.
  • Some positions may require Federal Communications Commission (FCC) licensure.

Responsibilities
