About The Position

Capital Health is seeking a full-time Radiation Therapist for its Radiation Oncology department at the Hopewell location. This role is crucial in preparing patients for radiation therapy, ensuring accurate patient positioning, and maintaining treatment records. The Radiation Therapist will work with advanced technology, including linear accelerators and CT simulators, and will be responsible for daily quality assurance of equipment. The position also involves patient education, communication with the care team, and participation in departmental quality improvement initiatives. This role requires a commitment to professional development and staying current with advancements in radiation oncology.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or required certification.
  • Graduate of an JRCERT approved school of Radiation Therapy.
  • Less than one year as a staff therapist in a radiation therapy department with experience in linear accelerators and patient simulation.
  • AHA BLS - Healthcare Provider
  • Radiation Therapist - Reg
  • Ability to operate equipment with minimal supervision.
  • Simulator, CT-simulation, computerized linear accelerators.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare immobilization devices in accordance with physician prescription.
  • Position patient for initial definition of tumor volume to be determined by physician.
  • Film specified treatment volume for review and approval by physician.
  • Mark/tattoo appropriate body anatomy for daily positioning on linear accelerator.
  • Document or capture patient measurements and machine treatment parameters for dosimetry planning and calculations accurately.
  • Acquire CT datasets for patient positioning, contours and setup parameters.
  • Position patients for treatment and verify setup per physician prescription.
  • Verify beam parameters, ancillary aids and blocking including record and verification systems on machine and the patient's computerized treatment plan, before initiation of radiation beam.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily treatments and other records as required.
  • Document timely any corrections resulting from changes in the originally prescribed course of treatment.
  • Detect unsatisfactory setup, resolve and report to physician and physics in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that verification images are obtained at appropriate intervals.
  • Recognize the need for adjustments in ports when comparing simulation films and portal films.
  • Acquire CT data sets for patient contours and setup parameters.
  • Perform daily QA on linear accelerators, simulator and CT to verify accurate output of designated parameters.
  • Report erratic operation of equipment to physics.
  • Verify operation of emergency shut offs and interlocks.
  • Report any discrepancies to physics.
  • Participate or provide assistance with in-vivo dosimetry measurements and special dosimetry.
  • Maintain professional development and professional certification and work towards enhancement of professional development.
  • Attend department in-services/conferences and meetings.
  • Keep abreast of new technology in the field and assist in the development of new techniques, participate in research projects or educational demonstrations.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, family, medical staff, care team members, supervisors and outside contacts in a timely manner to facilitate effective treatment.
  • Provide education and support appropriate to patient level of understanding and motivation.
  • Include family/caregiver in education and training as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate collaboration in communication with team members and be open to feedback and receptive to change as evidenced by team feedback.
  • Accurately schedule patients for treatment and assist in collecting and documenting information for patient billing.
  • Partake in report writing, data collection, quality assurance activities, performance improvement projects and credentialing surveys as requested.
  • Participate in community health events as requested.
  • Participate in training and evaluations of radiation oncology affiliate students.
