About The Position

Under the direction of the Clinical Supervisor, apply high quality radiation treatments to the patient in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist. This role involves preparing the treatment room and equipment, transferring patients, performing imaging, delivering prescribed radiation therapy, maintaining patient communication and documentation, observing for adverse reactions, adhering to safety guidelines, preparing immobilization devices, performing simulations and treatment planning scans, assisting in dosimetry, attending chart rounds, performing quality assurance procedures, managing supplies, reporting equipment faults, ensuring safe handling of hazardous materials, submitting billing documents, reviewing charges, ensuring patient safety, participating in accreditations and special projects, and maintaining compliance with all governmental and regulatory requirements. The role also includes completing mandated training and maintaining licensure and continuing education.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited Radiologic Therapy Technology program with a current or eligible certificate of registry from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Thorough knowledge in computer information systems.

Responsibilities

  • Check prescriptions, diagnoses, electronic charts and patient identifications.
  • Explain procedures to patient and advises patient regarding reactions to treatment.
  • Prepare room and equipment, including immobilization devices and radiation accessories, for each patient according to prescription.
  • Transfer patients safely to treatment couch, giving special care to catheters, IV’s, etc.
  • Perform all imaging as prescribed and document according to office policy.
  • Follow all mandated supervision requirements.
  • Deliver accurately the prescribed planned course of radiation therapy under the general supervision of the Radiation Oncologist and Radiation Administrator.
  • Maintain visual and audio communication with patient receiving treatment at all times.
  • Accurately and neatly maintain patient markings and all documentation regarding setup requirements.
  • Observe patient for any unusual reactions or symptoms requiring medical intervention and report these issues to nursing and/or the radiation oncologist.
  • Observe radiation safety guidelines at all times for patient and personnel.
  • Always follow ALARA principles.
  • Prepare immobilization devices and perform simulations and treatment planning scans as requested by the radiation oncologist.
  • Complete all documentation associated with these procedures.
  • Assist in dosimetry as needed, importing treatment planning scans, contouring, and double checking of monitor unit calculations.
  • Attend chart rounds as rotation requires.
  • Perform all daily warm-up and quality assurance procedures.
  • Report any results outside of required ranges.
  • Secure and maintain supplies.
  • Report any faults reported on the linear accelerator to Varian and radiation oncologist/radiation administrator.
  • Maintain log of all reported issues.
  • Ensure the safe handling, storage and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Submit proper documents to billing to ensure timely billing.
  • Accurately review summary of patient’s charges.
  • Responsible for ensuring the safety of the patient throughout the course of the procedure.
  • Participates and collaborates in accreditations and special projects of SRO as required.
  • May be asked to participate in development of SRO policies and procedures.
  • Maintains compliance with all governmental and regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for completing, in a timely manner, all mandated training and in-services, including but not limited to annual OSHA training and PPD placements.
  • Maintain licensure and complete all continuing education requirements.
  • Maintains a high level of patient confidentiality.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
