This position is focused on Radiation Safety, with other safety areas noted as valuable but not part of the everyday work environment. The role supports on-site Health Physicists, radiation workers, and Enterprise Radiation Safety. Responsibilities include instrument calibration, utilizing survey meters to detect radioactive material, managing the dosimetry program, performing quarterly leak tests and wipes with analysis, decontamination, auditing departments using radiation and radioactive materials, and radioactive waste management. While not a direct patient care position, the role operates within a medical setting and may involve exposure to sensitive patient care environments such as hospital rooms, procedural rooms, the emergency department, and surgical suites. The position also supports broader safety programs including chemical safety, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, respiratory protection, and special projects. This involves performing hazard assessments and audits, taking measurements, conducting training, writing policies and procedures, and maintaining supplies. The technician will document and communicate observations to improve safety initiatives and reduce hazards, maintain databases, and collaborate with interdepartmental teams to enhance safety practices.
