This position is primarily focused on Radiation Safety, with other safety areas noted in the main description being valuable but not part of the everyday work environment. Key responsibilities include supporting on-site Health Physicists and radiation workers, calibrating Enterprise Radiation Safety instruments, utilizing survey meters to detect radioactive material, managing the dosimetry program, performing quarterly leak tests and wipes with analysis using a liquid scintillation counter, and conducting decontamination when needed. The role also involves auditing departments that use radiation, non-ionizing radiation, and/or radioactive materials, and managing radioactive waste. While not a direct patient care position, it operates within a medical setting and may involve exposure to sensitive patient care environments such as hospital rooms, procedural rooms, the emergency department, and surgical suites. The position supports broader safety programs including chemical safety, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, respiratory protection, and special projects. This includes assisting with hazard assessments and audits, taking measurements, conducting training, writing policies and procedures, and maintaining adequate supplies. The technician will document and communicate observations to work unit staff to improve safe work initiatives and reduce hazards, maintain databases, and collaborate with interdepartmental teams to enhance safety practices.
