About The Position

This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with radioactive materials license terms and conditions, as well as applicable state or federal regulations. The role involves providing training to staff and workers on the basic principles of radiation, acting as the chief liaison with competent authorities, and preparing necessary amendments for optimal facility operation.

Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in health physics or a related field (e.g., natural sciences or engineering).
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of full-time radiation protection experience.
  • At least three (3) years of supervisory and/or RSO functions.
  • Qualified by training and experience to protect public health, safety, and the environment.
  • Training description must be submitted and approved by the applicable competent authority.

  • Years of applicable experience may be substituted for educational minimal requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all terms and conditions of the radioactive materials license and applicable radiation/radioactive material regulations.
  • Ensure proper accounting for all radioactive materials and their security against unauthorized removal.
  • Ensure radioactive materials are used by qualified and authorized personnel.
  • Ensure proper monitoring of personnel for total potential radiation exposures, both internal and external.
  • Maintain all records required by the radioactive materials license and company policies regarding radiation protection.
  • Serve as the chief liaison with applicable competent authorities, responsible for preparing and obtaining necessary amendments for optimal facility operation.
  • Provide meaningful and accountable training to staff and workers on the basic principles of radiation, including testing and record keeping.
  • Be sufficiently familiar with counting equipment for all radionuclides, including fixed laboratory and portable survey equipment, for use, instruction, and calibration.
  • Possess sufficient knowledge in computer usage and respective software.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
