Nuclear Engineering & Radiation Safety Officer

Reveam, Inc.•McAllen, TX

About The Position

The Nuclear Engineering & Radiation Safety Officer provides technical leadership, expertise, and operational support across engineering, operations, and research and development. The role leads radiation safety programs, nuclear engineering analyses, shielding design, dosimetry analytics, radiation detection, and high-energy particle system operations, and helps develop customer-facing regulatory services. The successful candidate works closely with engineering and operations teams on facility development, experimental activities, radiation safety initiatives, and continuous improvement of facility and system performance. The role requires strong technical capabilities, attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to collaborate in a dynamic, technically complex environment. The position is based in Austin, Texas or San Francisco, California, is salaried, and reports to the Chief Technology Officer. It has no supervisory responsibilities. Work is split mainly between a standard office environment and the facility, with time potentially spent in a refrigerated area. The role involves frequent computer and standard office and technical equipment use, standing and walking, and lifting up to 15 pounds. Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts and vehicles is possible; noise may be high in the operational facility and quiet to moderate in the office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • At least 8 years of experience designing, building, or operating nuclear facilities or high-energy particle systems, including technical leadership of shielding analyses or radiation safety programs.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership within a multidisciplinary team, mentor technical staff, and synthesize complex technical information to accomplish shared objectives.
  • Strong knowledge of radiation safety principles and demonstrated experience developing and implementing radiation safety procedures, training, and regulatory compliance programs.
  • Proficiency with MCNP or comparable particle-transport simulation tools for shielding design, dose calculations, and interpretation and validation of simulation results.
  • Experience selecting, using, and interpreting results from radiation detection and dosimetry equipment, including multi-particle spectrometry.
  • Experience applying computer programming, databases, and statistical or numerical analysis to dosimetry data, beam performance assessment, or engineering problems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including preparing technical reports, proposals, training materials, and recommendations for technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision, establish technical priorities, and exercise sound judgment on complex engineering and radiation safety issues.
  • Ability to thrive in a challenging, dynamic environment and adapt quickly to changing priorities and issues.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with discipline in establishing and adhering to standards and procedures and ensuring the quality of technical work.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • At least 10 years of experience designing, building, or operating nuclear facilities or high-energy particle systems, including leadership of multidisciplinary projects or radiation safety programs.
  • Experience serving as a Radiation Safety Officer or leading accelerator radiation safety programs, including regulatory submissions, inspections, and customer compliance support.
  • Experience working with activated or contaminated materials.
  • Expert-level experience with MCNP and other particle-tracking simulation tools.
  • Outstanding analytical and troubleshooting skills, including the ability to resolve conflicts and drive issues to resolution.
  • Experience developing or delivering customer-facing regulatory compliance services or technical consulting engagements.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with and provide technical support to engineering and operations teams.
  • Provide technical expertise in MCNP calculations, shielding requirements, radiation safety initiatives, and dosimetry data analytics, including simulations, analyses, designs, reports, and proposals.
