Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering or related field.
  • 5 years experience as Radiation Safety Officer.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state and local regulations, and industry Radiation Protection standards.
  • Proficiency in radiation detection and measurement instruments.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong writing capabilities, especially with writing clear, concise EHS procedures.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Within 12 months of hire, obtain Registered Inspector Status with TDEC
  • Travel up to 10% when necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Health Physicist (CHP), National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists (NRRPT) and/or Certified Laser Safety Officer (CLSO)
  • DOT/IATA certification for Radioactive Hazardous Materials.
  • Experience working with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 Management Systems.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring compliance with Radioactive Material (RAM) License requirements and all local, state and federal regulations (NRC, TDEC, OSHA, DOT) for Knoxville and Rockford sites.
  • Developing and implementing radiation safety policies, procedures, and training programs to minimize occupational exposure and ensure the safety of employees and the environment.
  • Providing guidance and support to employees working with radioactive materials or radiation-producing equipment, including training on safe handling practices and emergency response procedures.
  • Performing routine audits, inspections, and surveys of buildings and equipment to ensure adherence to safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Conducting risk assessments and hazard analyses for radiation use and provide recommendations for risk mitigation.
  • Managing employee exposure monitoring program, including issuance and collection of radiation dosimeters, and review and distribution of exposure reports.
  • Maintaining accurate records of all radioactive materials, including their procurement, use, storage, and disposal. This includes performing semi-annual leak tests and inventories.
  • Maintaining Public Dose documentation.
  • Maintaining the registration and inventory of radiation producing machines.
  • Conducting inspections of radiation producing machines at required intervals per TDEC regulations.
  • Maintaining the Hot Lab and conducting monthly inspections and surveys.
  • Managing the waste program for all radioactive materials generated on-site.
  • Overseeing shipments of Radioactive Materials and conducting RAM package check-ins.
  • Ensuring that all incidents, accidents, and personnel exposure to radiation in excess of “ALARA” or site regulation limits, are investigated and reported to required entities.
  • Preparing correspondence, license amendments, applications and other communications required by TDEC and/or the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
  • Preparing and submitting all regulatory and company required reports in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining all records in accordance with regulatory and Siemens Healthineers requirements.
  • Collaborating with regulatory agencies, Siemens Healthineers radiation safety committees, and internal stakeholders to address compliance issues and implement best practices.
  • Overseeing the calibration of radiation survey instruments.
  • Co-facilitating the Radiation Safety Committee.
  • Leading site Radiation Emergency Response Teams (RERTs).
  • Supporting site EHS Specialist with management of Environmental, Health and Safety programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
  • Working with the EHS Team to maintain the Environmental Health and Safety Management System to ensure adherence to the Siemens Healthineers requirements and ISO 14001/ISO 45001 standards.
  • Being an EHS representative for site-related projects. This includes reviewing Management of Change (MoC) forms, conducting project safety reviews, evaluating new equipment, overseeing contractors and other tasks.
  • Conducting EHS inspections and participating in incident investigations, root cause analyses and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Participating with onsite Emergency Response Teams and EHS committees.
  • Conducting EHS Awareness Training Sessions for new employees to raise awareness and promote a positive safety culture.
  • May be required to perform other EHS related duties and tasks as assigned.
