About The Position

The purpose of this position is to provide technical reviews and evaluations of Radiological Department activities necessary to support the safe and cost effective operation of Cooper Nuclear Station (CNS). The incumbent requires a detailed technical knowledge of Radiation Protection Program activities ranging from classical health physics theory to advanced radiation protection field applications. The position prepares a wide spectrum of reports and audits including radiation dose assessment calculations, respiratory program evaluations and assessments, resolutions to Corrective Action Program identified deficiencies, technical reviews of station documents and procedures, annual assessments of the CNS Radiation Protection and ALARA Program activities and performs department improvement coordinator functions. In addition, this position is responsible for the technical overview and implementation of the, NPPD Radioactive Material Licenses, CNS Radwaste Shipping Program, CNS Dosimetry Program and the Radiological Data Management System.

Requirements

  • 10 years nuclear power plant experience supporting Radiation Protection Department, with at least 3 years of CNS Radiation Protection Department experience.

  • Former or Current Reactor Operator or Senior Reactor Operator License at Cooper Nuclear Station preferred if working in Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct technical reviews of station procedures, Nuclear Power Group reports, station modifications and industry reports.
  • Evaluate and assign internal, external and skin doses resulting from planned and unplanned radiological work activities utilizing NRC approved software, industry technical reports, and in-vivo and in-vitro bioassay analysis.
  • Conduct annual audits and self-assessments of the CNS Radiological Department and its associated Radiation Protection and ALARA programs. Perform the department improvement coordinator function. (Provide timely and accurate evaluations to INPO/NRC/QA/ANI identified findings and discrepancies, industry Operating Experience reports, and conditions adverse to quality identified by the CNS Corrective Action Program.
  • Direct and provide technical oversight for the Radiological Data Management System (RDMS) ,Radwaste Shipping Program, and Dosimetry Programs and provide technical direction for the administration of NPPD's three Nebraska Radioactive Material Licenses.
  • Direct and provide technical oversight for the calculation of off-site radiation doses to the general public resulting from planned and unplanned liquid and gaseous effluent discharges emanating from CNS.
  • Perform on-call radiological accident assessments duties as required by NUREG-0654. Conduct radiological dose assessment, recommend protective action measures to off-site authorities, direct on-site radiological surveys and assist in the assessment of off-site radiological releases.
  • Provide technical solutions to unplanned events involving the Radiation Protection Department which require alternative radiological engineering controls for radiological work activities or require radiological engineering calculations to support continued station operation.
