About The Position

Wellstar is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Radiation Oncologist to join its multidisciplinary oncology team. The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating, planning, and administering radiation therapy to patients as part of their cancer treatment. This role requires close collaboration with medical oncologists, surgeons, radiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive and personalized patient care. Requirements

  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
  • Board certification or board eligibility in Radiation Oncology.
  • Valid and unrestricted state medical license (or eligibility to obtain).
  • Completion of an accredited Radiation Oncology residency program.
  • Strong knowledge of modern radiation techniques, including IMRT, IGRT, SBRT, and brachytherapy.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Compassionate patient care philosophy with attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Active involvement in clinical trials or academic research.
  • Fellowship or subspecialty training in areas such as brachytherapy, or stereotactic radiosurgery.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough patient evaluations including physical exams, medical history, and diagnostic imaging reviews.
  • Develop individualized radiation treatment plans based on patient needs and current evidence-based practices.
  • Prescribe and oversee the administration of radiation therapy in coordination with dosimetrists and medical physicists.
  • Monitor and adjust treatment plans based on patient responses and side effects.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated patient care.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records, reports, and documentation in accordance with healthcare regulations and facility policies.
  • Educate patients and families on treatment protocols, expected outcomes, and potential side effects.
  • Participate in tumor boards, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical research if applicable.
  • Stay current with advancements in radiation oncology through continued education and professional development.
