Radar Test Engineer Opportunities - Mid to Senior Level

JT4•Las Vegas, NV
•$106,517 - $205,899

About The Position

JT4, LLC provides engineering and technical support to western test ranges for the U.S. Air Force, Space Force, and Navy through the Joint Range Technical Services Contract (J-Tech II). The Radar Test Engineer works primarily in research and development engineering groups, performing a variety of radar testing tasks. The role combines theoretical and practical engineering work to develop innovative solutions to technical challenges. Positions may be filled at Engineer IV, V, or VI levels. The work generally takes place in an office environment, with some field work and possible travel to remote company locations. Depending on assignments, the engineer may also plan, perform, oversee, or independently complete design, development, analysis, review, testing, installation, integration, sustainment, operation, and maintenance work involving radar equipment used for radar testing. Applicants must hold an engineering degree from an ABET-accredited program, be U.S. citizens, be eligible for a Department of Defense Top Secret security clearance, and hold a valid state-issued driver's license. Experience and degree requirements vary by level: Engineer IV requires 8 years with a bachelor's degree, 6 years with a master's, or 4 years with a doctorate; Engineer V requires 14, 10, or 8 years respectively; Engineer VI requires a master's and 16 years or a doctorate and 12 years of related engineering experience.

Requirements

  • Engineering degree from an ABET-accredited program.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Eligibility for a Department of Defense Top Secret security clearance.
  • Valid state-issued driver's license.
  • Engineer IV: bachelor's degree in engineering and 8 years of related engineering experience, or master's degree in engineering and 6 years, or doctoral degree in engineering and 4 years.
  • Engineer V: bachelor's degree in engineering and 14 years of related engineering experience, or master's degree in engineering and 10 years, or doctoral degree in engineering and 8 years.
  • Engineer VI: master's degree in engineering and 16 years of related engineering experience, or doctoral degree in engineering and at least 12 years.

Nice To Haves

  • Major or minor in electrical engineering or physics.
  • Basic understanding of radar signal processing, including phased-array and ISAR processing.
  • Basic understanding of all components of the radar range equation.
  • Basic understanding of electromagnetic wave propagation and interaction.
  • Experience with anechoic chamber or open-air RF testing.

Responsibilities

  • Calculate RF link budgets and expected interference levels for test scenarios and geometries.
  • Analyze radar signal-to-noise levels to assess whether mission criteria can be met.
  • Identify radar and other technical data needed and arrange for its collection to satisfy mission requirements.

  • Design test scenarios and waveform timing to verify the proper functioning of electronic warfare systems.
  • Analyze radar returns using micro-Doppler techniques to assess mission outcomes and identify potential radar hardware or timing problems.
  • Track radar data over time and statistically assess the health of radar systems and components.
  • Analyze 3-D position and attitude data after test execution to determine whether planned objectives were met.
  • Analyze radar data and statistically identify anomalies relative to expected values.
  • Communicate complex radar-related information in writing and orally to personnel with limited domain knowledge.
  • Select signal-processing techniques and algorithms for processing radar returns.
  • Determine sampling and signal-processing requirements for collecting data on moving targets.
  • Provide software requirements to software team members.
  • Write code, such as in MATLAB or Python, to analyze and assess conditions in radar returns.
  • Work independently on multiple tasks.
  • As assigned, plan, perform, or oversee radar equipment research, design, development, production, testing, installation, integration, sustainment, operation, and maintenance.
  • Read, understand, and implement applicable operational, safety, quality, and environmental requirements, plans, procedures, and policies.
