Responsible for supervising the Racing Department and securing an ample supply of race horses for the racing meet. This role involves performing duties as described in the Ohio Rules of Racing, writing condition sheets for all racing programs, and approving the population of horses while reviewing their performance. The Racing Secretary will oversee Racing Department personnel, respond promptly to problems in racing areas, and schedule all races. They must be aware of shifts in horse supply to maximize output, understand strategies used at other tracks to remain competitive, and verify the eligibility of horses for racing programs. This role also includes overseeing the drawing of races, production of program proofs, managing scratches and changes, supervising and training officials and staff, creating work schedules, and maintaining registration certificates for claiming races. The Racing Secretary must be familiar with the ages, class, and competitive ability of all horses, examine nominations and declarations for stake events, and compile lists of eligible horses. Additionally, they will serve as a liaison between the OHHA and Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway staff, and perform other duties related to the promotion and dissemination of racing information.
