About The Position

The Racial Justice Initiative (RJI) Scholars program, created in 2021, offers 1L law students from select New York City-area law schools an opportunity to gain practical legal experience. The program provides exposure to the practice of law in a real-world setting with supervision and support from the firm's lawyers. RJI Scholars will participate in limited-scope clinics and projects related to the firm's RJI, monthly racial justice conversations, a presentation on interview and resume preparation, a discussion with lawyers committed to diversity and inclusion, and firm-wide diversity-and-inclusion-themed programming.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled at Brooklyn Law School, Cardozo School of Law, Columbia Law School, Fordham University School of Law, Hofstra University School of Law, NYU School of Law or St. John’s University School of Law.
  • Must have successfully completed the first semester of a full-time J.D. program by the program’s spring start date.
  • Expected graduation date within three years.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in their community or school.
  • High academic achievement.
  • Leadership ability.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in limited-scope clinics and projects connected to the firm’s RJI.
  • Engage in monthly racial justice conversations.
  • Attend a presentation from the Professional Development department focused on interview and resume preparation.
  • Participate in a conversation with lawyers committed to diversity and inclusion.
  • Attend firm-wide diversity-and-inclusion-themed programming.
