About The Position

Harmar manufactures wheelchair lifts for automobiles, stair lifts for the home, and residential and commercial vertical platform lifts, selling to dealers and the government. Their products aim to increase mobility and access for individuals. The R&D Test Technician will use various tools, prints, and test equipment to assemble and test production assemblies and devices. This role requires initiative, leadership potential, clear communication, and an understanding of customer deliverables, quality costs, and production efficiency. The technician will work under the guidance of the Engineering team to fabricate test fixtures, validate test equipment, and potentially test completed products. Safety and quality are paramount, requiring adherence to all company regulations and quality systems, and immediate reporting of any deficiencies.

Requirements

  • Good understanding of customer deliverables and the impact of failure/cost of poor quality.
  • Understanding of production costs to include waste, downtime, scrap and re-work.
  • Follow detailed assembly instructions, processes and procedures.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office, Arena).
  • Some welding skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a series of operations to correctly assemble/test production assemblies and devices using hand & power tools, fixtures, engineering prints, work instructions and test equipment.
  • Exercise initiative/judgement in work requirements.
  • Assist, set up and test medical devices.
  • Work under the guidance of the Engineering team to fabricate test fixtures requiring familiarity with mechanical and electrical assemblies.
  • Fabricate and validate correct operation of test equipment and fixtures for use in a manufacturing environment.
  • Test or assist in testing operation of completed product.
  • Report problems with quality, processes, equipment and materials to Lead Engineer.
  • Report any unsafe conditions to the Lead Test Engineer and work to correct them.
  • Use safe practices in all aspects of job and follow all company safety regulations.
  • Comply with policies, guidelines and regulatory requirements per the Harmar Quality System.
  • Ensure all applicable quality standards are rigorously applied and adhered to.
  • Complete all documentation relating to business or regulatory requirements.
  • Inspect, audit and verify the quality of manufactured products.
  • Maintain high levels of personal quality while preparing, executing and documenting tests.
  • Immediately report any product or system quality deficiencies to the Lead Test Engineer.
  • Work positively with support functions to fully define the processes/procedures/controls relevant to team activities.
  • Provide support and input to continuous improvement activities within the team.
  • Establish a working relationship and communicate with other departments and ensure an effective interface is maintained.
  • Feedback to the Management team to share ideas and improve operation, recommending, supporting and implementing continuous improvement activities and process and procedure improvements to optimize results and improve quality of delivery, in line with quality standards requirements and delivery in line with Company and Customer requirements.
  • Evaluate returned material for failure and root cause.
