About The Position

Harmar manufactures wheelchair lifts for automobiles, stair lifts for the home, and residential and commercial vertical platform lifts, selling to dealers and the government. Their products aim to increase mobility and access for individuals. This role involves using various tools, prints, and test equipment to assemble and test production assemblies and devices. The technician will also fabricate test fixtures, validate test equipment, and potentially test completed products under the guidance of the Engineering team. A key aspect of the role is understanding customer deliverables, the cost of poor quality, and production costs like waste and downtime. The position requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Understanding of production costs to include waste, downtime, scrap and re-work.

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office, Arena).
  • Some welding skills.

Responsibilities

  • Using a variety of hand & power tools, fixtures, engineering prints, work instructions and test equipment to perform operations to correctly assemble/test production assemblies and devices.
  • Assisting, setting up and testing medical devices.
  • Working under the guidance of the Engineering team to fabricate test fixtures requiring familiarity with mechanical and electrical assemblies.
  • Fabricating and validating correct operation of test equipment and fixtures for use in a manufacturing environment.
  • Testing or assisting in testing the operation of completed product.
  • Reporting problems with quality, processes, equipment and materials to the Lead Engineer.
  • Reporting any unsafe conditions to the Lead Test Engineer and working to correct them.
  • Complying with policies, guidelines and regulatory requirements per the Harmar Quality System.
  • Ensuring all applicable quality standards are rigorously applied and adhered to.
  • Completing all documentation relating to business or regulatory requirements.
  • Inspecting, auditing and verifying the quality of manufactured products.
  • Maintaining high levels of personal quality while preparing, executing and documenting tests.
  • Immediately reporting any product or system quality deficiencies to the Lead Test Engineer.
  • Working positively with support functions to fully define the processes/procedures/controls relevant to team activities.
  • Providing support and input to continuous improvement activities within the team.
  • Establishing a working relationship and communicating with other departments to ensure an effective interface is maintained.
  • Providing feedback to the Management team to share ideas and improve operation, recommending, supporting and implementing continuous improvement activities and process and procedure improvements.
  • Evaluating returned material for failure and root cause.
