About The Position

The R&D Technician will prepare test recipes for new ingredients and finished products to meet customer needs, under direct supervision. This role involves learning to identify concerns with recipe performance, documenting modifications, assisting in various trials, processing sample requests, and participating in shelf life evaluations. The technician will also be responsible for maintaining lab inventory, safely operating and cleaning equipment, and adhering to all food safety requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or 1+ years of related experience and/or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical skills
  • Quick learner with the ability to take direction and follow procedures to meet objectives
  • Ability to effectively communicate with coworkers and customers
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently, organize, prioritize, and multi-task

Responsibilities

  • Prepare test recipes for new ingredients and finished products according to established instructions provided by Supervisor/Manager and fellow R&D team members; collect product data, measurements, and pictures as needed
  • Learn to identify concerns with recipe performance, working with Food Technologists/Scientists to modify recipes, as needed, to ensure a successful product
  • Document modifications made to recipes for clarification and approval by Food Technologists/Scientists; record observations and outcomes/deviations from plans
  • Learn to assist in the execution of pilot lab runs, consumer tests, plant trials, and validation trials
  • Process sample requests and ensure samples are shipped on time and arrive in excellent condition
  • Participate in shelf life evaluations including organoleptic assessments
  • Ensure lab ingredients are stocked and within shelf life
  • Safely operate, clean, and maintain labware and equipment used for testing, adhering to sanitation requirements in the handling and preparation of food products
  • Comply with all food safety requirements, training, policies, and procedures
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
