About The Position

The R&D Technician II will perform various tests on medical devices, including mechanical, electrical, conditioning, length, OD, and visual tests. This role requires maintaining accurate documentation, communicating test results to engineers, and adhering to safety protocols. The position involves utilizing lab tools and equipment and maintaining a work balance of approximately 85% lab time and 15% desk time, with 100% on-site work. The position is temp to hire and is NonExempt, with overtime paid at Time and a Half. The role analyzes verbal or statistical data to prepare reports and studies for scientific or engineering areas, potentially using qualitative and/or quantitative lab methods. It includes all levels of education and experience, with 1-4 years of experience required or a BS degree.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent years of education and recent experience totaling 2-4 years
  • High School +6 years' experience
  • AS Plus a minimum of 4 years' experience
  • BS plus 1-2 years' experience
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and work independently
  • Familiarity with medical device testing or product assembly preferred
  • Experience in R&D or testing environments is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Document drafting experience is beneficial
  • Solid work history with demonstrated reliability (e.g., 2+ years at the same company)
  • Career progression or transferable skills relevant to testing or mechanical work
  • 1-4 years experience required or a BS degree

Nice To Haves

  • AA degree or post-secondary education preferred
  • BS in engineering or master's degree is considered overqualified
  • Candidates with BS degrees in chemistry, biomedical, or physics are typically not a fit due to long-term retention concerns
  • Ideal candidates are hands-on, focused, and interested in long-term growth within the team—not seeking a steppingstone role

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical, electrical, conditioning, length, OD, and visual tests on medical devices
  • Follow detailed written and verbal instructions
  • Maintain accurate documentation using good documentation practices
  • Communicate clearly with engineers regarding test results and observations
  • Adhere to safety protocols and use appropriate safety equipment
  • Utilize lab tools and equipment including calipers, MTS, multimeters, digital thermometers, force gauges, Cognex, LabView, and hand tools
  • Analyze verbal or statistical data to prepare reports and studies for use by professional workers in a variety of scientific or engineering areas
  • May be proficient in qualitative and/or quantitative lab methods
