R&D Solution Builder Intern

IntelcomMontreal, QC

About The Position

Make your internship count At Intelcom, interns don’t just observe, they contribute meaningfully to real projects that shape how we operate. You’ll gain hands-on experience, grow your skills, and explore long-term career opportunities in a fast-moving, innovation-driven environment. We are seeking an R&D Solution Builder Intern to join our IT team and support the exploration, design, and prototyping of innovative software solutions across Client & Partner Integrations, Backoffice, and Station Operations. This internship provides hands-on experience in applied R&D, allowing you to contribute to real proof-of-concepts (PoCs), experiment with modern development tools (including AI-assisted coding), and learn how early-stage ideas evolve from concept to execution in a complex operational environment.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • Hands-on programming experience through coursework, personal projects, internships, or hackathons.
  • Familiarity with web development, APIs, databases, or cloud-based services.
  • Curious, proactive, and eager to experiment.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Able to work effectively in environments with uncertainty and evolving requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) or applied machine learning is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build software prototypes for selected use cases, focusing on functional, working solutions.
  • Write, test, and iterate on code using modern development practices, frameworks, and AI-enabled development tools.
  • Contribute to PoC architecture and technical design, including APIs, data flows, and system interactions.
  • Implement integrations, automation, or data-driven features aligned with client, partner, and operational needs.
  • Rapidly prototype and iterate, learning to scope problems, ship early versions, gather feedback, and improve.
  • Assist in defining experiment goals and success criteria, focusing on what the code needs to demonstrate.
  • Measure and evaluate PoC outcomes using metrics, logs, and qualitative feedback.
  • Document technical decisions, learnings, and tradeoffs to support future iterations or handoff.
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Operations, and Data teams to align prototypes with real-world constraints.
  • Experiment hands-on with AI technologies (LLMs, RAG, agentic systems) to accelerate development and enable new capabilities.
  • Share technical learnings and demos with the team to foster a culture of experimentation and a builder mindset.
  • The role involves daily (or regular) communication with pan-Canadian stakeholders.
