Requirements

  • 5+ years in a technical production or R&D environment, with specific expertise in molding, mixing, and machinery operation.
  • Deep understanding of how production machinery functions; you should be comfortable adjusting settings to achieve specific material results.
  • Strong ability to write clear, concise technical notes and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface with customers, management, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects with minimal supervision.
  • Only U.S. citizens will be hired for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with elastomers, resins, foams, or composite materials is highly preferred.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and use CAD software (SolidWorks) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Execute production-level tasks for R&D projects, including machine setup, trial runs, and prototype fabrication to meet project timelines.
  • Manage daily R&D floor operations with minimal supervision, taking initiative to keep projects moving when the R&D Engineer is occupied.
  • Lead the hands-on preparation of materials and the operation of molding equipment for absorbers and composite products.
  • Act as the first line of defense for machinery issues; identify, diagnose, and resolve technical glitches in production equipment during R&D builds.
  • Act as the liaison between the R&D office and the production floor, ensuring that design intent is accurately captured in the physical build.
  • Record precise process parameters, yield data, and observations during experimental runs to provide the R&D Engineer with actionable feedback.
  • Support material characterization by performing DOE, as well as electrical, chemical and mechanical testing.
  • Identify bottlenecks in the prototype-to-production workflow and implement practical floor-level solutions.
  • Perform first-article inspections and basic metrology to ensure R&D samples meet the required technical specifications.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, manufacturing, process, and quality engineering teams to validate and document new product introduction (NPI) activities.
  • Support supplier qualification and material validation, including evaluation of alternative materials or manufacturing techniques.
