This position reports to: R&D Lab Manager __ The work model for the role is: Onsite #LI-Onsite Your role and responsibilities: Serves as an individual contributor responsible for setting up and executing product tests in accordance with established testing methodologies, standards, and requirements. Ensures accurate and thorough documentation of test procedures and results. Performs assigned tasks using hands-on technical skills and a practical understanding of engineering and technology concepts. Responsibilities may include the setup, configuration, testing, operation, and maintenance of laboratory equipment, products, or systems in support of research and development activities. Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Mechatronics, Electricity/Electronics, or equivalent technical training with 5+ years of related experience; or Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 2+ years of experience; or 9+ years of directly related experience, including at least 2 years in a hands-on laboratory or electrical technical role.
  • Fundamental electrical knowledge and safety practices, with the ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented individual with strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills; capable of managing multiple priorities and proficient in basic computer tools (Windows, email, Microsoft Word and Excel).
  • Candidates must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, dynamometers, thermocouples, power meters, transducers, and variable speed drives.
  • Experience in machining, industrial electricity, vibration, airflow, sound level measurements, and familiarity with IEEE, CSA, and UL thermal and compliance testing.

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical and mechanical testing of motors and related products in accordance with standardized test plans and regulatory requirements (e.g., CSA, UL, DNV, ABS, SIRA), ensuring accurate documentation, reliable results, and adherence to testing schedules.
  • Set up, configure, operate, and maintain laboratory test equipment and systems, including motor testing dynamometers (2 Hp to 2500 Hp), variable frequency drives, and sound and vibration measurement systems.
  • Conduct hands-on technical work such as wiring, installation, programming, disassembly, and reassembly of electric motors, while maintaining laboratory assets and updating internal procedures to support continuous improvement.
  • Ensure full compliance with Safety, Health, and Environmental requirements, participate in external audits, and maintain required operator certifications (e.g., forklift, hoist, crane, scissor lift) to support safe and efficient lab operations.
