About The Position

This position works out of our Woodridge location in the SH division. The Structural Heart Business Mission is to restore health and improve quality of life by designing and providing device and management solutions for treating structural heart disease. The main purpose of the role is to provide engineering support to new and existing products, processes, prototypes, fixtures, and tools. This role applies engineering and scientific principles to the evaluation and solution of technical problems with some guidance from a technical lead or manager. It supports continuous quality improvement and may serve as a technical lead for individual projects (component/subassembly).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, biological sciences, or equivalent experience.
  • 2-5 years of related work experience with a good understanding of specified functional area.
  • Experience working within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail.
  • Strong technical and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.
  • Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines in timely manner.

Responsibilities

  • Researches, develops, designs, and evaluates mechanical materials, components, assemblies, processes and/or equipment.
  • Conducts feasibility studies to verify capability and functionality.
  • Develops new concepts from initial design to market release.
  • Coordinates project activities.
  • Write and submit intellectual property (patents).
  • Maintains detailed documentation throughout all phases of research and development.
  • Investigates and evaluates existing technologies.
  • Reviews or coordinates vendor activities to support development.
  • Establishes and cultivates an extensive network of support to facilitate completion of assignments.
  • May interact with vendors.
  • Plans and organizes non-routine tasks w/approval.
  • Initiates or maintains work schedule.
  • Establishes priorities of work assignments.
  • Exercises judgment in selecting innovative, practical methods to achieve problem resolution.
  • Involved in test method and model development.
  • Troubleshoots, investigates, and resolves problems involving techniques, materials, equipment, part and sub-assembly design; documents justification or rationale as needed.
  • Provides input into dFMEA, pFMEA and risk analyses. Identifies and mitigates sub-assembly risks.
  • Supports improvement of products, processes, and/or design tools to be employed for investigation and design development.
  • Utilizing SolidWorks to design components, assemblies, and testing fixtures.
