About The Position

The R&D Engineer II will be responsible for analyzing and establishing product specifications, performance requirements, and data to determine the feasibility of proposals. This role involves conceptual design, generating Bills of Material (BOM), performing engineering analysis, planning and executing tests, providing manufacturing support, and interacting with sales, vendors, and customers. The engineer will contribute to team efforts to produce a quality product, maintain regular attendance, and comply with company policies. This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar Engineering field, with 1-5 years of experience. Training in finite element analysis (FEA) is also required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar Engineering field
  • 1-5 years’ experience
  • Training in finite element analysis (FEA)
  • Experience designing welded, bolted, riveted, and bonded fabricated assemblies.
  • Knowledge of material science for steel, aluminum, composite
  • Strong verbal and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of thermal insulating structures is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes and establishes product specifications, performance requirements, and data to determine feasibility of proposals.
  • Develops functional designs, in conjunction with support team of engineers, which meet performance, dimensional and other requirements for a stated application. This can be for new product or an improvement for an existing one.
  • Creates drawings and supporting information for the purpose of conveying the design intent to the targeted customer.
  • Oversees creation of Bills of Material (BOM) for prototypes, base model products, and custom units for special applications.
  • Prepares or directs preparation of layout and detailed drawings. Provides information to data entry from the drawings and vendor supplied components which will define a completed product in the form of a top level BOM.
  • Understands and applies Finite Element Analysis and strength of materials at component level and on completed product to ensure structural integrity.
  • Applies general mechanical engineering analysis techniques to determine cause of field failures.
  • Produces calculations of product weights and load distributions.
  • Plans and develops experimental test programs to include test requests, procedures, and fixture development.
  • Oversees the performing of tests.
  • Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
  • Evaluates engineering test results to clarify or resolve problems and prepares design modifications as required.
  • Directs or coordinates building of prototype systems or products.
  • Works with Manufacturing and Manufacturing Engineering to establish or improve manufacturing processes and procedures.
  • Ensures that products are being made to plan and assists in preventing or eliminating defects.
  • Generates materials list for estimating purposes.
  • Provides technical information to sales and marketing for training of sales force.
  • Works with vendors to evaluate and select components.
  • Inspects quality of supplied components for compliance to requirements.
  • Interacts with the customer of the product.
  • Contributes to the team effort to produce a quality product.
  • Attends scheduled work hours on a regular and timely basis. Maintains good attendance.
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures.
  • Works and communicates in a team environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned as required by the Company.
