R&D Electrical Hardware Engineer

Nexteer•Saginaw, MI

About The Position

The R&D Electrical Hardware Engineer works in the research and development group on technology development and innovation. The role is responsible for circuit design, board layout, testing, and debugging of new technologies for power electronics circuits, embedded systems, and sensors, and for enforcing the technology development process across projects from research through production. The engineer evaluates, selects, and optimizes electrical hardware components; develops circuit and hardware designs for motion control applications; and performs board layout for complicated switching and embedded circuits. The role also develops test plans, validation setups, and verification criteria; builds and tests hardware at bench and vehicle levels; supports design reviews and DFMEA activities; works with cross-functional teams and suppliers; and documents electrical design and validation processes.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of and practical experience with electrical hardware and circuit design.
  • Experience using laboratory test equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, and function generators.
  • Experience with electrical circuit design and simulation software such as Mentor Graphics or PLECS.
  • Familiarity with ECU construction methods and techniques to reduce package size and minimize power loss.
  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Technical writing ability.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Two years of professional experience in hardware design and development is preferred.
