About The Position

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Santa Clara University seeks applications for quarterly lecturers (QLs) for the 2026-2027 academic year to teach Computer Science and Engineering courses. Santa Clara University operates on a quarter system, with each quarter (fall, winter, and spring) being 10 weeks long, followed by an extra week for final examinations. Graduate classes are typically scheduled during the early morning or evening hours, while undergraduate classes are held throughout the day, Monday through Friday. QLs have the opportunity to teach up to 4-course equivalencies (CEs) per academic year, with a maximum of 2 CEs in any single quarter. Additionally, QLs can teach an extra 2 CEs during the summer terms. The value of course equivalencies is generally defined as: UNDERGRADUATE: 4 unit lecture = 1 CE, 1 unit lab = 0.5 CE, 1 unit lab with a teaching assistant (TA) = 0.25 CE. GRADUATE: 4 unit lecture = 1 CE, 2 unit lecture = 0.66 CE.

Requirements

  • Earned graduate degree (Ph.D. preferred) in computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related field. At a minimum, candidates should hold a Master’s degree with equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching computer science and engineering at the undergraduate level and/or graduate level.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and conduct all assigned class meetings
  • Assign and evaluate/grade student work appropriately
  • Be available to students for consultation outside of class
  • Assign student grades appropriately and submitting them on time to the Office of Student Records
  • Conduct course assessments as required by the department
