About The Position

We have an opening for a Graduate Student Intern to engage in practical research experience to further their educational goals. You will perform simulations to relevant linear and non-linear response of materials via quantum methods. This position is in the Quantum Simulations Group of the Physics Division of the Physical & Life Sciences Directorate. This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
  • Must be a continuing student in good standing at an accredited institution pursuing a PhD in Materials Science, Physics or related field
  • Demonstrated academic achievement in Physics or related field.
  • Ability to apply basic physics principles to solve technical problems.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills.
  • Ability to present and communicate concepts and ideas.
  • Knowledge in Materials Science/Physics/Applied Mathematics/Applied Sciences.
  • Familiarity with modern computer-based data analysis approaches, summarizing and presenting results.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • This position involves U.S. Export Control; this work must be performed by a U.S. person (U.S. citizen, U.S. lawful permanent resident, U.S. national, or U.S. protected individual (e.g., refugee, asylee)).
  • If your assignment is longer than 179 days cumulatively within a calendar year, you must go through the Personal Identity Verification process. This process includes completing an online background investigation form and receiving approval of the background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience running electronic structure simulations code, specifically using TDDFT and DFT theory.

Responsibilities

  • Calculate electromagnetic response and spectra of driven material systems through simulations
  • Develop analysis tools for simulation results
  • Analyze results and provide weekly updates.
  • Present work through presentations and/or poster sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
