About The Position

The Graduate Intern provides advanced administrative, analytical, and project support to the Department of Policy Development and Strategic Initiatives. This position assists with the implementation of the Townwide Strategic Plan and Communications Plan; supports policy development and organizational improvement initiatives; and contributes to cross-departmental projects that advance the Town’s mission, goals, and strategic priorities. The intern will conduct research, assist with policy and procedure development, support project management efforts, prepare reports and presentations, and help coordinate organization-wide initiatives. The position requires frequent interaction with staff, leadership, and the public in a professional, customer-focused manner. Work is performed primarily in an office environment, with occasional attendance at meetings or Town events. Performs other duties as assigned to support the Town’s mission, goals, and strategic initiatives.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to research, analyze information, and summarize findings clearly.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw logical conclusions.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program in related field with a minimum GPA of 3.25; OR A transitioning military service member with relevant education, experience, or training applicable to the internship.
  • Valid driver’s license, or ability to obtain one prior to employment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and executing projects related to strategic planning, policy development, communications, and organizational improvement.
  • Conduct research using government records, online resources, benchmarking, and data analysis to support policy recommendations and improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in the development, review, and documentation of policies, procedures, and organizational guidelines.
  • Support implementation and tracking of the Townwide Strategic Plan, including performance measures and progress reporting.
  • Assist with preparation of reports, presentations, briefing materials, and written correspondence for leadership and Town Council.
  • Support communications initiatives, including website content updates and development of a communications editorial calendar.
  • Participate in meetings, committees, and public or organizational events as assigned.
  • Assist with project management activities, including project planning, coordination, data collection, and report preparation.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts and assist with the use of performance management or improvement tools (e.g., Enviso software).
  • Assist with learning and development initiatives, which may include training coordination, event planning, and use of the learning management system.
  • Communicate with internal departments and external stakeholders to support assigned projects and initiatives.
  • Provide customer service by responding to inquiries and directing requests appropriately.
  • Organize and prioritize multiple assignments while meeting deadlines.
  • Make informal or formal presentations to staff or stakeholders as needed.
  • Comply with all Town policies and workplace conduct standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support departmental operations and Town priorities.
  • May act on behalf of the Director when designated.
