About The Position

Intel's Quantum Computing Group is developing silicon-based quantum processors using spin qubit technology in silicon quantum dots. The Quantum Device Measurement Engineer will characterize silicon spin qubits and support the development of scalable quantum systems, working at the intersection of quantum physics and semiconductor technology. The position involves hands-on measurement of quantum devices at millikelvin temperatures using dilution refrigerators and other cryogenic systems. The engineer will collaborate with research, device fabrication, software development, systems integration, and external academic partners. The role includes analyzing device performance, developing predictive models and testing methodologies, advancing Intel's quantum computing roadmap, and communicating research findings through publications, presentations, and technical reports.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Cryogenic Engineering, Quantum Information, Quantum Technologies, or Quantum Engineering.
  • At least 1 year of experience in electrical measurement of semiconductor qubit or quantum devices.
  • At least 1 year of experience in one or more listed areas, including tuning quantum dots to the few-electron regime; measuring quantum dot threshold voltages, charge noise, noise spectroscopy, or valley splitting; qubit readout or spin-state readout; fidelity, spin resonance, coherence time, relaxation, T1, T2, Rabi, Ramsey, CPMG, or Hahn Echo measurements; Pauli Spin Blockade; spin orbit; quantum gates; Bell State or GHZ work; tomography; or quantum algorithms.
  • At least 1 year of experience with dilution refrigerators or other cryogenic systems.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experimental insight and the ability to design and prioritize critical experiments.
  • Motivation and enthusiasm for self-directed, hands-on research.
  • Creativity, flexibility, and adaptability in a fast-paced research environment with changing priorities.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams.
  • Leadership potential to drive independent research initiatives.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 1 year of experience with cryogenic control of qubits.
  • At least 1 year of experience with electrical measurements of spin qubits, singlet-triplet qubits, exchange-only qubits, semiconductor qubits, or quantum well heterostructures, preferably in silicon, Si/SiGe, or Ge/SiGe.
  • At least 1 year of experience measuring devices at cryogenic temperatures from millikelvin to 4 K.
  • At least 1 year of programming, software, or driver development experience, preferably with Python.
  • First-author publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Experience with quantum error correction or characterization protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute quantum device measurement experiments to characterize silicon spin qubits.
  • Perform electrical measurements using dilution refrigerators and cryogenic systems at millikelvin temperatures.
  • Analyze quantum device performance data and develop predictive models for device optimization.
  • Collaborate with device fabrication, software development, and systems integration teams.
