About The Position

Play an integral role in delivering high-quality building and civil engineering projects by providing commercial insight, cost control, and value-driven solutions throughout the full project lifecycle. As a Quantity Surveyor, you will help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with contractual, financial, and regulatory requirements. You will work collaboratively with project teams, engineering, procurement, construction, and commercial stakeholders to support project performance while maintaining a strong focus on quality, compliance, and client satisfaction. Purpose of the role You will be responsible for managing all costs associated with building and civil engineering projects, from early-stage estimating and budgeting through to final account closeout. The role focuses on minimizing project costs while maximizing value, ensuring commercial integrity, and maintaining the required technical and quality standards. You will support project delivery through cost analysis, contract administration, forecasting, reporting, change management, and risk identification. You will also contribute to ensuring compliance with statutory building regulations, contractual obligations, and company procedures. This role requires sound technical judgment, commercial awareness, and the ability to work independently while collaborating across multidisciplinary teams in a dynamic project environment.

Requirements

  • University degree, or equivalent, in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, Commercial Management, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant industry experience.
  • Typically 5+ years of relevant experience supporting building, infrastructure, civil engineering, industrial, energy, or construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of quantity surveying principles, cost management methodologies, and commercial project controls practices.
  • Experience administering contracts and managing commercial aspects of complex projects.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, contracts, scopes of work, and technical documentation.
  • Working knowledge of construction methodologies, project delivery models, procurement strategies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen with the ability to identify trends, risks, and opportunities within project cost performance.
  • Experience preparing cost reports, forecasts, progress evaluations, and commercial presentations.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision while effectively managing competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Confidence influencing discussions, contributing to proposals and presentations, and communicating commercial recommendations clearly and professionally.
  • Strong understanding of systems, processes, and tools related to quantity surveying, commercial management, and project controls.
  • Proficiency with standard commercial and project management software platforms, including Microsoft Office applications and relevant cost management systems.
  • A collaborative, pragmatic, and solutions-oriented mindset with a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Manage project costs throughout the entire project lifecycle, including budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, and final account reconciliation.
  • Prepare, review, and administer contracts, variations, change orders, claims, and commercial documentation.
  • Monitor project expenditures and identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency and overall project value.
  • Support the preparation of estimates, tender evaluations, procurement activities, and subcontractor management processes.
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, contracts, and project documentation to ensure accurate commercial execution.
  • Develop and maintain cost reports, progress measurements, earned value data, and commercial performance metrics.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, construction teams, procurement specialists, and clients to support successful project outcomes.
  • Identify commercial risks, recommend mitigation strategies, and support resolution of commercial issues.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable building regulations, contractual requirements, company standards, and industry best practices.
  • Participate in project reviews, audits, reporting activities, and stakeholder meetings as required.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to less experienced team members when appropriate.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to systems, tools, processes, and commercial execution practices.
