Quantitative Software Engineer - Expert Systems

Preferred Mortgage ServicesHenderson, NV

About The Position

This role is not a typical software engineering position. It requires combining software engineering, quantitative analysis, financial logic, and AI to build production systems that support complex mortgage and financial operations. The engineer will be responsible for turning complex business knowledge and decision-making into automated system logic, working with large financial and mortgage servicing datasets, and building SQL-based systems, ETL pipelines, APIs, and automated workflows. The role involves applying optimization, simulation, statistical modeling, and operations research to develop solutions related to cash flow, financial models, risk, reconciliation, and exception management. The engineer will automate processes that currently require significant manual analysis and build systems designed for accuracy, validation, traceability, and auditability. Collaboration with developers, operations teams, financial professionals, and subject matter experts is expected, as is contributing to PMSI's proprietary Q™ technology platform. A key aspect of the role involves building expert systems that integrate rules-based logic, quantitative models, and decision-support algorithms into PMSI's technology platforms. The position also offers opportunities to use AI as an engineering tool, including AI coding agents and AI-assisted development tools, for coding, testing, debugging, documentation, and modernization. Building controlled AI/agentic workflows using APIs, data, business rules, and internal systems, as well as validating, testing, and refining AI-generated code, are also part of the responsibilities. The role requires building appropriate controls, monitoring, and human oversight into AI-enabled solutions.
