About The Position

GTI Energy is seeking a dedicated Quality Weld Inspector for Second Shift to ensure welded components meet internal and external quality standards. This role plays a key part in verifying weld quality through visual and non-destructive inspections and supports GTI’s commitment to precision and compliance across all welded assemblies. A Welding Quality Inspector ensures that welded structures meet specific safety, quality, and industry codes (e.g., AWS, ASME, API) through inspections, testing, and documentation. Responsibilities span pre-welding, in-process, and post-welding checks, including visual inspection, NDT methods, and verifying WPS compliance. Key requirements include AWS CWI certification, extensive welding experience, and strong technical knowledge.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in welding or related inspection is commonly requested.
  • Proficient in reading blueprints, welding symbols, and interpreting codes and standards (e.g., ASME Section IX).
  • Strong attention to detail, proficiency in NDT techniques (MT, PT, RT, UT), and excellent reporting skills.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, climb, and work in varied environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Past or Active CWI or ASNT certifications in Visual Testing (VT)

Responsibilities

  • Pre-Welding: Inspect weld preparation, joint fit-up, materials, and check Welder Qualification Records (WQRs) to ensure compliance with Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
  • During Welding: Monitor welding parameters (voltage, amperage, speed, heat input), preheat temperatures, and interpass cleaning.
  • Post-Welding: Conduct visual inspections for defects (e.g., cracks, porosity), perform or oversee Nondestructive Testing (NDT) such as MT, PT, or UT, and verify dimensional accuracy.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records, generate inspection reports, and prepare material traceability certificates.
  • Compliance: Ensure all activities adhere to industry codes (e.g., AWS D1.1) and safety regulations.
