About The Position

This role is responsible for validating that finished goods meet internal or customer specifications for dimensions, thickness, blend, and tolerances. The position involves documenting raw material lot numbers, equipment settings, and quality of finished goods. It also includes inspecting packaging materials, controlling non-conforming materials, and creating customer-required certificates of analysis. The Quality Technician is expected to maintain the Quality Lab in good working order, ensure testing equipment is calibrated, and perform tests according to ASTM or MSE methods. A professional working environment, appearance, and adherence to safety requirements are also mandated.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of all production line blenders and silo locations.
  • Familiarity with Job Travelers and Engineering PDF’s for manufacturing instructions.
  • Ability to complete a Product Validation form, save information in the Quality One drive, and report data using a Surface tablet.
  • Ability to safely operate a fork truck and pass requirements for an MSE issued license.
  • Working knowledge of all lab equipment.
  • Ability to determine product requirements are met by testing against provided tolerances and specifications, reviewing results, and/or visual inspection.
  • Ability to conduct tests according to the following ASTM/MSE Standards: Gauge Profile ASTM D 5947, Coefficient of Friction ASTM D 1894, Elmendorf Tear ASTM D 1922, Elongation ASTM D 882, Tensile Yield ASTM D 882, Tensile Ultimate ASTM D 882, 1% Secant Modulus ASTM D 882, Dart Impact ASTM D 1709 A & B, Surface Tension ASTM D 2578, Opacity MSE Method, Haze ASTM D 1003, Shrink MSE Method, Melt Flow Index ASTM D 1238.
  • Test results are logged, documented, and reported accurately.
  • Sample retains to be accurately marked and stored in designated areas.
  • Basic computer skills in Microsoft software (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to issue Certificate of Analysis.
  • Accurately document and mark competitive films.
  • Complete examination and documentation of all physical attributes of competitive films.
  • Documentation and reporting of all submitted customer-supplied information.
  • High school diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

  • Validate finished goods for correct dimension, thickness, blend, and adherence to internal or customer tolerances and specifications.
  • Document raw material lot numbers, equipment settings, and photos of finished roll quality.
  • Inspect packaging materials and configurations to ensure products are protected from damage.
  • Collect, label, log, and submit required samples for testing by Lab Assigned Quality Technicians.
  • Control all non-conforming finished goods that do not meet requirements.
  • Control all non-conforming raw materials that may lead to the manufacturing of non-conforming finished goods.
  • Create and report customer-required certificates of analysis, accurately labeling and logging samples for customer submission.
  • Maintain the Quality Lab in good working order, including daily cleaning of floors, counter-tops, and equipment, and daily trash removal.
  • Ensure testing equipment is within calibration and zeroed for use according to testing procedures.
  • Perform testing within the guidelines determined by ASTM or MSE methods.
  • Maintain a professional working environment and appearance as mandated in the MSE employee handbook.
  • Uphold the safety requirements within the MSE employee handbook.
  • Ensure finished goods are packaged according to the appropriate standard operating procedure (SOP) for that product class.
  • Report to work and maintain good time management and diligent work practices.
  • Abide by all safety requirements as outlined within the MSE Employee Handbook.
  • Effectively produce films on the QC Lab line that are free of defects and manufactured to instructed specifications.
  • Provide samples and/or test data from lab line films to inform senior management and/or customers.
  • Use basic computer skills in Microsoft software (Word, Excel, Outlook) to create, open, format, save, retrieve, and populate documents.
  • Create folders to sort and save data associated with testing.
  • Routinely use spell and grammar check software on all communications.
  • Issue Certificate of Analysis as instructed by customer request.
  • Accurately document and mark all competitive films submitted for testing and reporting purposes.
  • Complete examination and documentation of all physical attributes of competitive films.
  • Document and report all submitted customer-supplied information relative to the performance/requirements of films.
  • Conform with PPE requirements and Safety Rules.
