About The Position

The position of Quality Technician will be reporting to the local Quality manager. This role involves conducting hourly quality checks, performing Last Piece Quality Assurance (QA) checks, evaluating samples and inspection sheets, and verifying label placement. The technician will also inspect raw materials, conduct final quality checks, and ensure product compliance across various metrics including material, printing, dimensions, and function. Responsibilities include identifying and segregating non-conforming products, adhering to corrective action protocols, leading quality improvement projects, tracking production data, assisting in root cause analysis of quality failures, and formalizing material sorting processes.

Requirements

  • Computer literacy. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office especially Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
  • High school graduate or equivalent with related college degree and/or technical courses or associate (two-year) college degree.
  • Minimum of one years of experience in a related field.
  • Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.
  • Able to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume and rate.
  • Able to apply concepts of high school math.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Employee is regularly required to walk and talk and hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Knowledge of LEAN manufacturing, ISO, Six Sigma preferred, OSHA or Safety related field.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct hourly quality checks on all operating lines (every hour on the half-hour).
  • Complete the Last Piece Quality Assurance (QA) check for the auditing shift.
  • Evaluate and audit the hourly bag samples and inspection sheets completed by Production Operators as part of the layered audit process.
  • Audit and verify label placement according to FabCards and approved proofs.
  • Inspect all raw materials—including roll stock, poly, labels, boxes, and trays—upon receipt, comparing them to the vendor part FabCard.
  • Conduct a final quality check for product adherence when a machine operation is placed into downtime.
  • Verify product compliance across multiple quality metrics, including material, printing, dimensions, and function.
  • Identify non-conforming products and ensure they are separated into a tagged Gaylord or container.
  • Adhere to the "Stop-Call-Wait" protocol for corrective actions when a quality check requires it.
  • Lead and complete one Quality Improvement Project per quarter, collaborating with Quality personnel across all three shifts.
  • Track and record production data, including waste and corresponding dollar amounts at the line.
  • Assist in identifying the root cause of quality failures (e.g., missing QR codes or non-adhering bags) to initiate containment and corrective action.
  • Secure and formalize the material sorting process (e.g., labels).
