About The Position

The Quality Team Lead assists in coordinating and leading activities in the quality lab, including the operation and maintenance of coordinate measuring machines (CMM) OPTIGO, OPTICELL, and other measurement tools and equipment like the 3D Scanner. This role involves performing necessary dimensional layouts via CMM or other methods to ensure customer and Quality Assurance standards are met and maintained. The Quality Team Lead is responsible for their own safety and well-being, as well as the team's health and safety, quality, customer satisfaction, cost, productivity, and ergonomic issues, guided by company policies, procedures, and the Magna Employee’s Charter.

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree (AA) or equivalent from two year college or university; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Understanding of customer quality specifications.
  • Working knowledge of CMM programming.
  • Microsoft application certification.
  • Statistical Process Control including FARO CAM2 SPC Process Control.
  • Computer skills, proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • 2-5 years of experience in Quality Tech, CMM, Manufacturing, Quality Auditor, Leadership, Operations, or CNC roles.

Responsibilities

  • Follow and enforce all plant safety rules and policies.
  • Understand and promote Magna’s philosophies (Magna’s Operational Principles, Corporate Constitution and Employee’s Charter).
  • Follow and comply with all operational procedures/policies as stated in the employee Environmental Health and Safety programs (Magna and OSHA Standards).
  • Lead the Quality Team on your shift to co-ordinate daily activities and manage work orders.
  • Support / Perform as Quality techs as needed which includes X-Ray audit process, Tensile testing, Bend testing and Chemistry testing.
  • Perform Blister tests and help with Sample preps as needed.
  • Support / Perform as Quality Auditors as needed.
  • Escalate Quality Deviations to Production Leadership and Quality leadership.
  • Perform layout inspections on product, fixtures or dies as required. This would include first article layouts, gage reproducibility & repeatability studies and capability studies.
  • Operate and maintain the coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and other measurement tools and equipment (3D Scanner). Job includes doing necessary dimensional layouts via CMM or other means to ensure customer and Quality Assurance standards are being met and maintained.
  • Maintain annual part layout.
  • Maintain annual fixture gage reproducibility and repeatability studies.
  • Monitor applicable CMM Trackers to prioritize and run weekly audits.
  • Optimize machine uptime by proactively getting fixtures and parts, while machines are kept running through shift.
  • Ensure machines run 8 hours during shift, no idle process time.
  • Help maintain test equipment and storage area in a safe, clean and orderly condition. Follow 5S principle in and around work area.
  • Prepares and maintains programs and reports from layout inspections.
  • Fully understand quality standards, procedures and customer requirements.
  • Program the Opti-Cell/Optigo (white/blue light measuring system) to measure stampings and assemblies of manufactured components.
  • Setup and measure manufactured components and provide timely feedback on the results.
  • Export the data to the appropriate location on the network.
  • Initial set-up of the equipment to take the required views to provide the necessary part verification.
  • Load the cells with the fixtures and parts prior to operation.
  • View the output image and notify the appropriate Team Leader or Supervisor if there are any discrepancies they need to be aware of.
  • Unload the parts and fixture after the operation.
  • Maintain NCM log and NCM cage for accuracy and help Quality auditors to contain of production parts as needed.
  • Create quality alerts as needed.
  • Exercise confidentiality in sharing dimensional feedback with customers prior to review by Leadership team.
  • Daily review of 5S and housekeeping in work area.
  • Promote good housekeeping.
  • Perform other duties as required.
