About The Position

A Quality Specialist 2 is responsible for performing a variety of detailed electro-optical tests on cables and systems throughout the production process, based on internal as well as contractual requirements. Advanced skills to include: an understanding and certification in high voltage safety requirements and test techniques, electro-optical fault location and diagnosis and System level testing. This position requires strong attention to detail, good analytical skills and decision making capability as well as the ability to work independently.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency required.
  • 2-4 years experience in optical and electrical testing of integrated systems.
  • Must be able to pass a written, job related test.
  • Math skills to include addition, subtraction, multiplication, division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.
  • Possess the mathematical skills required to work with conversion factors, formulas and other related functions.
  • Proficient computer skills, including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Positive communication style, along with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Proficient verbal and written skills which allow for accurate explanations of all situations you are responsible to manage.
  • Possess the ability to react to changes of responsibility throughout the day.
  • Must have the flexibility to respond to multiple assignments.
  • Ability to speak, read and write English with technical proficiency.

Nice To Haves

  • An associate’s degree with a focus on electrical or electronics, or no less than two years of related experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs characterization tests on fiber optic cables, including OTDR, Chromatic Dispersion, Polarization Mode Dispersion, Electrical Tests (High Voltage, IR and DCR).
  • Performs System level testing of Integrated electronics
  • Performs training for Junior level Testers
  • Analyze results and ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Safely operates various hand and power tools for preparing cable ends for test.
  • Generate failure reports to track non-compliances
  • Interfaces with manufacturing quality, management and customer representatives professionally and respectfully.
  • Follows verbal and written instructions, accepts increased responsibility and is accountable for his/her actions.
  • Follows safety guidelines (PPE, etc.) and demonstrates safe work practices.
  • Maintains a good safety record, has a working knowledge of the behavioral based safety initiatives and accepts the responsibility to communicate unsafe situations.
  • Adheres to the safety and quality standards (goals and metrics) of the organization while working within a team environment.
  • While interacting with customers and visitors, represents the Company in a positive manner.
  • Promotes job and process improvement as it relates to the department (through 5S as well as other improvement initiatives).
  • Responds to multiple production assignments in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Overtime may be required, based on business need; regular attendance required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
