Quality Source Inspector - Mechanical - Level II
About The Position
SQA Services is hiring a Quality Mechanical Source Inspector in the Midwest Region to perform precision inspections of mechanical parts, components, assemblies, and materials. Inspections may cover purchased parts, in-process and final assemblies, and materials for workmanship and conformance to specifications and drawings. The role may involve surface plate inspection of first-article, in-process, and lot-sample parts, as required, as well as reviewing documentation packages against industry- and commodity-specific standards, classifying defects, and verifying rework. The schedule is first shift, 40 hours per week, five days per week, on an as-needed basis. Compensation is $30–$35 per hour. Travel time is paid at 50% of the hourly rate, and mileage is reimbursed at the U.S. government rate of $0.725 per mile driven. Because the position requires access to ITAR-controlled technical data and/or defense articles, candidates must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience inspecting precision mechanical parts.
- Strong ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings and industry- or commodity-specific standards.
- Proficiency in GD&T and validating dimensions with tolerances of .005 inches or greater using hand tools such as indicators, micrometers, calipers, and height gauges.
- Experience with certificates of conformance and inspection documentation.
- Ability to adapt to new technology and software.
- Excellent visual acuity to detect defects in complex products.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. lawful permanent resident to comply with ITAR requirements.
Nice To Haves
- Associate's degree or higher in a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Certification in inspection techniques or GD&T.
Responsibilities

- Inspect purchased parts, in-process and final assemblies, and materials for workmanship and conformance to specifications and drawings.
- Perform surface plate inspection of first-article, in-process, and lot-sample parts when required.
- Use inspection equipment such as micrometers, gauge blocks, dial indicators, height gauges, optical comparators, profilometers, and coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), when necessary.
- Verify documentation packages against industry- and commodity-specific standards.
- Classify defect types and verify rework conducted during the inspection.
