About The Position

This role is responsible for ensuring the quality of sheet metal fabrication through various inspection activities. The inspector will read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to verify quality characteristics using measurement gages. They will also lead efforts to assist teams with inspection and measurement on the production floor, support problem identification and resolution, and perform First Article Inspections (FAI) and PPAP sample inspections. The position involves completing various inspection tasks, including continuous and lot-by-lot sampling, random part sampling audits, and First Piece Inspection (FPI). A key responsibility is to rapidly escalate any Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) misses, nonconformances, and observed quality issues to the appropriate personnel. The inspector will also provide support for sorting, inspection, containment, and segregation of non-conforming material and actively document quality issues and actions taken.

Requirements

• HS Diploma required with Quality inspection work experience in fabrication, sheet metal manufacturing operations.
• Basic HS math knowledge/skills, comfortable with numbers, data.
• Demonstrated understanding, knowledge and proven experience in performing measurement, in-process quality inspection of fabricated sheet metal parts.
• Proven experience in the use and application of measurement gages/instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, other quality inspection and measurement instruments.
• Problem solving aptitude, knowledge in FAI, FPI, ISIR, and blueprint reading.
• Persistent and tenacious in follow up and follow through to track, monitor and close out issues taking all to the finish line.
• Move with a high sense of urgency, bias for action, drive for results, process critical reasoning/thinking skills.
• Self-motivated, confident, energetic, proactive.
• Well organized, self-starter and a team player both as a member and leader.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments.
• Good oral and written communications skills, interpersonal behavioral skills.
• Proficient in computer skills including MS Excel spreadsheets, use of tablets for data collection/tracking.

Responsibilities

• Adherence to the Cardinal Rules of Safety.
• Read and interpret inspection procedures, blueprints, engineering drawings, tolerances and specifications and apply requirements in sheet metal inspection activities.
• Select and use measurement gages to verify quality characteristics, both variables and attributes, and evaluate results to determine conformance to drawing/blueprint specifications.
• Lead efforts to assist teams with assigned inspection and measurement activities on the sheet metal fab production floor to support problem identification, containment, and resolution.
• Interpret component blueprints/drawings and apply requirements in First Article Inspection (FAI) and any assigned PPAP sample inspection activities.
• Complete assigned inspection tasks that include continuous and/or lot-by-lot sampling inspection, random part sampling audits, First Piece Inspection (FPI).
• Escalate, alert rapidly any Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) miss, nonconformances and observed quality issues to operators, leads, supervisors, managers.
• Provide adequate support to operations in necessary sorting, inspection, containment, and segregation of non-conforming material from production inventory.
• Actively document and update actions on quality issues with supporting documentation and feedback.
• Support and actively participate in Quality Management System (QMS) audit activities as and when required.
