The Process Tech will possess the ability to analyze and provide fast responses to the operators to ensure products remain in spec, support technical development and help solve problems both in our own facilities as well as at customer locations. The Process Tech will report directly to the Quality Manager. This person is responsible for production product conformity, both leading and supporting projects assigned by the Quality Manager, PSL Technical Director or General Manager within the Opticoat group. Support customer and MCC sponsored New Product Development projects and participate with group members in developing new opportunities for Pressure Sensitive platforms. Provide technical support to manufacturing on product development initiatives and internal efficiency improvements. Some of this role may be spent on-site with a customer, so it will also require demonstrating a growing level of expertise running our materials at MCC printing facilities and external customer sites.

Requirements

  • 2- or 4-year college degree; or two to four years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Math, including Algebra, skills are essential.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of container styles and printing/ converting materials and technologies related to package decoration.
  • Must have command of English language and strong communication skills both with customers and within MCC, at all levels.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

  • Experience may be primarily academic at this level but should also include some field experience.

Responsibilities

  • Technical support requires both proactive and reactive interactions with Purchasing, Technical and Coater staff.
  • Lead and/or support plant quality, cost and efficiency improvements through the design of trials and experiments, conducting trials and experiments and laboratory evaluations.
  • Conduct quality lab and technical assessments of product performance and complete comparative analysis with competitive products in market.
  • Interact on a continuing basis with Elkton Customer Service/Planning, Manufacturing and Sales in dealing with new or existing products, working closely to translating customer requirements into internal specifications and raw material selection.
  • Participate in product development initiatives through coater trial support and customer visits.
  • Role will also spend some time leading specific initiatives under the direction of PSL Technical Director.
  • Maintain lab / testing equipment up to and including calibrations to ensure accuracy in testing.
  • Maintain proper testing records for quick research and reporting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and quickly to coating or slitting team when products do not meet the specifications.
  • Initiate raw material complaints (SNAR) and track.
  • Investigate and provide feedback to our customers for root cause and corrective action.
  • Place coated rolls on quality hold and escalate for proper usage or disposition.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
