About The Position

The Quality Manager will liaise with customers and coordinate with staff and internal departments to effectively meet PPAP requirements for the introduction of new products and subsequent revisions of engineering changes. This role directs quality staff to monitor production to consistent required quality levels, assists and supervises the team to correctly interpret GD&T drawings, and supports CMM technicians to develop dimensional inspection methods. The Quality Manager monitors and assists in the dispositioning of quarantined goods, keeps management informed of product quality, and liaises with all plant departments and customers. This role also monitors plant scrap and rework, customer rejections and returns, and issues customer/concern reports to the MDS team in the event of a customer concern. The Quality Manager ensures the business system is established, implemented, and maintained in accordance with current ISO9001/IATF 16949 standards, corporate and customer specific requirements. They also ensure compliance to all health and safety rules and housekeeping principles, and that substandard conditions and practices identified in plant safety audits are corrected. The Quality Manager prepares reports and key measurable indicators each month, carries out corrective actions if necessary, and reports information in a monthly management review meeting. They attend management report-out meetings weekly, and Production and Fast Response Meetings daily. This role heads the internal audit process (QMS, Process & Product, LPA) and ensures compliance as required. The Quality Manager conducts department start-up meetings daily, provides oversight and direction, and delegates responsibilities to all department members. They manage performance by communicating job expectations and conducting employee evaluations, and coach, counsel, mentor, and discipline employees with assistance from HR and senior management. The Quality Manager works with HR to interview and select candidates, determines employee development and/or training needs, prepares the annual training plan, and completes training effectiveness evaluation forms. They participate in succession planning activities, assist with job analysis, and prepare the departmental budget annually. The Quality Manager follows all departmental and general procedures, performs other duties as assigned by the General Manager, and adopts, practices, and promotes Kaizen principles, participating in Kaizen and GEAR activities. They encourage continuous improvement efforts and ensure submission of individual and team GEARs. The role requires appropriate handling of sensitive information and maintaining confidentiality, and abiding by all company safety rules, responsibilities, policies, and procedures, including legislative requirements of OHSA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university in a technical field, or six years manufacturing quality experience.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a supervisory/management role.
  • Qualifications to include technical, analytical and judgmental knowledge of current quality control methods employed by engineering and manufacturing.
  • Strong background and experience in metal stamping and welding is must (Spot,MIG,etc).
  • Excellent knowledge of the ISO9001 and IATF 16949 standards, including Customer Specific Requirements and AIAG core tools (PPAP, MSA, PFMEA, Control Plan, etc).
  • Excellent problem solving, interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to coach, counsel, discipline, mentor and motivate.
  • Supervisory skills in employee development, health and safety, hiring, orientation, and performance reviews.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word and customer portals (GM, Ford, Stellantis, etc).
  • Must be willing to solve customer problems in a timely manner including plant visits.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a four year college or university in a technical field, or six years manufacturing quality experience.
  • With 2 years additional experience in a Quality Supervisor or managerial position for an automotive supplier in the metal processing field is required.
  • Qualifications to include technical, analytical and judgmental knowledge of current quality control methods employed by engineering and manufacturing.
  • Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquired or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations and permutations.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis for variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establishes facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to develop logical detailed plans aimed at continuously improving quality levels and quality systems.
  • The employee is frequently required to sit, and occasionally must walk, stand, use hands to feel or handle objects, tools or controls; reach and lift with hands and arms; talk, see and hear.
  • The employee may occasionally be required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist in the dispositioning of quarantined goods, with the goal of maintaining zero inventory in these areas.
  • Keep management informed of quality product and liaison with all plant departments and customers.
  • Monitor plant scrap and rework, customer rejections and returns.
  • In the event of receiving a customer concern (verbal or electronic), issue a customer/concern report to the MDS team.
  • Stop further processing and inform the area supervisor or manager responsible when becoming aware that a product or process is non-conformance.

  • Ensure compliance to all health and safety rules and housekeeping principals.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
