Quality Launch Supervisor 1

Lucid Motors•Phoenix, AZ

About The Position

The Quality Launch Supervisor leads quality activities associated with new vehicle launches, engineering changes, product introductions, validation builds, production ramp-up, and transition to stable series production. The role provides hands-on quality leadership across manufacturing operations, identifying product and process risks early, completing validation requirements, containing defects, and ensuring corrective actions are implemented effectively before issues affect customers or downstream operations. The supervisor partners with Manufacturing, Engineering, Supplier Quality, Technical Quality, Production, Digital/Software, and Launch teams to support readiness with objective quality evidence and robust risk management. The position requires knowledge of automotive quality systems, launch management, and structured problem-solving in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. It also includes leading and developing assigned quality personnel, monitoring launch risks and readiness, and communicating quality status and escalations to leadership. The role involves frequent presence in manufacturing and production environments. Extended hours, weekends, or alternative schedules may be required during critical launch activities, and occasional travel may be needed to support launch, supplier, or manufacturing activities.

Requirements

  • Previous supervisory, lead, or technical team leadership experience.
  • Experience supporting new vehicle launch or new product introduction programs.
  • Familiarity with IATF 16949 Automotive Quality Management Systems.
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality organizations.
  • Familiarity with vehicle diagnostics, software-driven quality concerns, and configuration management.
  • Strong technical writing, reporting, presentation, and executive communication skills.
  • Ability to lead multiple priorities while maintaining focus on safety, quality, and launch execution.
  • Occasional travel may be required to support launch, supplier, or manufacturing activities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead quality execution during prototype, pilot, pre-production, validation, and production ramp-up builds.
  • Set launch quality priorities and coordinate daily activities for Quality personnel supporting launch operations.
  • Monitor launch-related quality issues and escalate risks that may affect vehicle quality, production readiness, customer acceptance, or delivery schedules.
  • Participate in launch readiness reviews, build reviews, and cross-functional launch meetings.
  • Drive issues through containment, root cause analysis, corrective action implementation, validation, and closure.
  • Support transition from launch containment to standard production quality controls and achieve launch quality objectives and milestones.
  • Provide on-floor quality leadership during vehicle builds, launch events, and production activities.
  • Ensure defects are documented, categorized, prioritized, and assigned for resolution.
  • Coordinate inspection and validation of suspect vehicles, components, and manufacturing processes.
  • Verify the implementation and effectiveness of containment and corrective actions; identify recurring defects and systemic concerns requiring intervention.
  • Escalate critical quality concerns when release criteria or validation requirements have not been satisfied.
  • Support APQP activities and review process flow diagrams, PFMEAs, Control Plans, inspection standards, work instructions, validation documentation, and production-readiness deliverables.
  • Ensure high-risk PFMEA items have effective prevention and detection controls; support PPAP submissions and production validation activities.

  • Facilitate structured problem solving using 8D, 5 Why, Ishikawa (Fishbone), Pareto, and root cause analysis techniques.
  • Establish immediate containment for critical concerns, ensure corrective actions address verified root causes, validate effectiveness, and prevent recurrence.
  • Incorporate lessons learned into PFMEAs, Control Plans, manufacturing processes, and standardized work.
  • Provide launch quality support across vehicle systems, including high-voltage batteries, electric drive units and powertrain, electrical and charging systems, thermal management, chassis and suspension, body and closure systems, interior and exterior systems, and vehicle software and electronic controls.
  • Track launch defects, containment, corrective actions, readiness risks, and recurring concerns; analyze data for trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain visibility of open issues and overdue corrective actions, prepare quality status reports and risk assessments, and support launch dashboards, scorecards, and performance metrics.
  • Lead, coach, and develop Quality Technicians, Inspectors, and other assigned personnel; assign daily work and coordinate coverage for critical builds and production schedules.
  • Promote accountability, standardized work, escalation discipline, continuous improvement, and collaboration across quality, manufacturing, and engineering.
