About The Position

API Heat Transfer is looking for individuals who enjoy being part of transformation. With a renewed mission, new leadership, and acceleration toward Lean Cultural Change, our Operations Team is on its way to becoming a Lean Management powerhouse. The Quality Inspector plays a critical role in ensuring products meet contractual, regulatory, and quality standards. This position supports our commitment to excellence by inspecting, documenting, and validating work throughout the manufacturing and final shipment processes. At API, we take our culture transformation seriously. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of Quality Control experience.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience preparing and working with detailed technical documentation.
  • Experience with non‑destructive examination (NDE); certified VT and/or PT Level I.
  • Ability to lift and move products up to 50 lbs and operate overhead cranes.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Basic geometry, algebra, mathematics, and report‑writing skills.
  • Familiarity with fabrication drawings, welding processes, and NDE methods.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction while prioritizing daily tasks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree or higher.
  • Experience working in a union environment.
  • Certified VT and/or PT Level II.
  • Knowledge of ASME Section VIII, Division 1.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect units for cleanliness, documented release for assembly, weld appearance, and bundle insertion accuracy.
  • Verify compliance with contract requirements and record heat numbers during final assembly.
  • Perform final dimensional inspections of completed vessels.
  • Inspect final shipping preparations and apply green tags when acceptable.
  • Record all inspection activities on travelers (MIT) or other applicable documentation.
  • Review contract documents and prepare TCR/contract requirement lists.
  • Inspect and witness hydrostatic testing of ASME units.
  • Prepare and sign ASME data reports (U‑1s, U‑2s).
  • Inspect oxygen cleaning activities as required.
  • Prepare and enter rejection reports as needed.
  • Process MTRs and document packages.
  • Prepare contract folders for Authorized Inspector (AI) review.
  • Organize and file shipped contract documentation.
  • Inspect alignment and dimensional accuracy of components prior to welding.
  • Verify and document trace code markings of materials.
  • Monitor, document, and verify welder performance testing, qualifications, and stamping.
  • Inspect parts for final release in the grind shop.
  • Complete Welder Continuity Logs bi‑monthly and forward to the Team Leader or Quality Manager.
  • Calibrate measuring and test equipment.
  • Work with customer inspectors as required.
  • Communicate and resolve conflicts or issues with Engineering, Sales, Purchasing, and other departments.
