About The Position

The Quality Inspector (levels II, III) depending on level may be required to work with little supervision/mentoring and is proficient at all manual inspections with the manual Coordinate-Measuring Machine (CMM) and operating prior programed Digital Computer Controlled (DCC) CMM. Inspects components, assemblies, and related paperwork to ensure compliance with contract specifications. Ensures that no non-conforming or rejected product gets shipped to the end user or customer. Focused on providing the highest quality products to customers.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • GD&T experience with a variety of machining processes.
  • Knowledge of programming with PC-DMIS and CMM Manager.
  • Must be willing to work overtime as required
  • Travel up to 5% of working time.
  • Quality Inspector II- three years of related experience. Able to perform a full inspection autonomously and proficient with all manual inspections with CMM and DCC.
  • Quality Inspector III- seven years of related experience, able to plan inspections along with inspection setups and training other junior inspectors.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as geometric tolerances and drawing interpretation.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability and willingness to abide by set policies and/or safety programs established by BNI, our clients, and/or regulatory agencies which govern our performance and behavior in the normal course of our work while on BNI or the client’s property or job site.

Responsibilities

  • Gather documents, prepare the workstation and ensure that changes have been incorporate prior to inspection.
  • Utilize the drawings and specifications to plan all but the most complex company product inspections.
  • Suggest and incorporate improvements for plans personally developed.
  • Evaluate parts to ensure that they meet the specified requirements per the inspection plans.
  • Perform simple CMM and manual inspections with limited supervision.
  • Perform and train others on all company documentation requirements with limited supervision.
  • Provide floor/on machine inspection support. Develop working knowledge on machine process to utilize during inspection.
  • Identify handling concerns then suggest and implements solutions.
  • Select the appropriate qualification tool needed for the job and verify that it is calibrated and in good working condition.
  • Competently and safely inspect the part using hand tools in a manner that ensures repeatability and reproducibility of the measurement.
  • Locate the program and verifies the accuracy of the program for a CMM inspections.
  • Competently and safely performs simple manual CMM inspections.
  • Properly sets up and breaks down the setups on the CMM safely.
  • Confirm that results with a risk of falling outside the measurement uncertainty as applicable by utilizing alternate methods and/or inspectors.
  • Complete the inspection step on the router to properly indicate pass/fail and note the time to ensure the inspection results are traceability to the appropriate inspector.
  • Package the part to ensure the quality of the part and safety to personnel is maintained.
  • Properly tag all non-conforming parts as out of specification and place them in the Material Review Board (MRB) cage
  • Document the defect/out of specification condition on the Material Review Report (MRR) and submit the report for review and disposition determination.
  • Able to process dispositions with limited supervision.
  • Sign the disposition identified by MRB on the MRR and properly process the part per the instruction.
  • Collaborate with all departments to ensure that information and data transfers effectively to meet customer needs and organizational objectives.
  • Train others on issues related to Quality Assurance (QA) with supervision.
  • Constructive communicator with internal customers in support of inspections.
  • Collaborate with second shift to communicate shift hand-off information such as safety concerns, process escapes and previous tasks to ensure second shift effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with all internal customers to ensure needs are met: machinists, technicians, production control, shipping/receiving, program managers, and engineers.
  • Promote the Quality Management System and provide guidance to all employees who may need further understanding or guidance on procedural requirements.
  • Continuously improve procedures, processes and methods to ensure zero escapes on manual inspections and the CMM.
  • Identify areas for improvement in process and product relating to safety, quality, delivery and cost and elevates them to the Quality Manager.
  • Lead and implement safety, quality, deliverable and cost improvement projects as assigned.
  • Suggest department process improvements and assist in implementation as assigned.
  • Identify areas for improvement across all company processes and elevates them to the Quality Manager.

Benefits

  • The hourly range for the Quality Inspector II role is $30-$37.
  • The hourly range for the Quality Inspector III role is $37-$43.
  • The hourly rate provided above is inclusive of a 15% differential rate over base hourly rate.
